Game used to creep me out!
Ditto. The atmosphere on Myst was just terrific. Even after I knew, from reading reviews, that I couldn't really 'die', it was still tense and melancholy.

The speeder-bike level is still one of the most challenging game segments I've ever played. I think I got through it like, three times? And I never did actually beat the game.
Couple of more to toss out here:
Shadowgate (and to an extent Deja Vu and Uninvited)
Phantasmagoria
The 7th Guest (I still love the soundtrack to this game)
RPM Racing (SNES game that was actually published by the precursor to Blizzard, Silicon and Synapse; the track design element in this was just amazing fun to play with, especially with 0 gravity)
While it's only somewhat on-topic: I remember playing a game for either the NES or SNES that was a sort of action-puzzler. The premise was that you played either a little girl or some sort of panda/bear thing; each level was a rectangular room with tiles on the floor, and the way you defeated enemies was to 'kick' the tiles at them; they would slide along the floors and sometimes would have special effects when they hit the wall and shattered.
Does anyone remember the name of this game?

Oh wow, do I ever remember playing Zelda on N64. Spending hours in temples and just exploring the content. Back then, that was completely epic for me. I loved fishing and riding around my horse. The temples were hard too - Water temple anyone? I still have to look up online how to get through it.

That sounds kinda like "Adventures of Lolo" (1, 2, and 3) on NES... except no pandas... you played a blue blob... and there was only a little bit of tile sliding. Lots of tile pushing though.

Yeah, I remember Lolo. Hated that game - mostly because when I played it I was still too young to appreciate puzzlers. That wasn't the one, sadly.
After searching through the list of NES games on Wikipedia, I finally found it! It was called
Mendel Palace
!
Apparently it wasn't a girl and a panda - I was getting confused with Pocky and Rocky for the SNES. But I had the tile flipping/kicking part right. I might have to ROM that up, I remember having a lot of fun with it.

I used to have that game, I recognize the cover and logo, but it was just one of those games I could never get to work. (no matter how many times I blew into the end)

I would... but one of my friends is the type who, if they suck at something, refuses to even admit that it might be enjoyable to play regardless of winning or losing, and another is the type who gets all pissy when they lose once or twice.
... so it generally ends up being me (who doesn't mind losing repeatedly as long as its fun / not cheese) and another friend (who is the same as me in terms of "not being a !@#$%"), and you can only play the same person / same person + bots for so long.

I would love to see this ported to the next-gen Nintendo console. Such an awesome game, and I spent
so
much time working on gold medals and figuring out how to beat each track.
Unfortunately, I doubt that will happen; the development company for it got sued by the predecessor to Pixar because the 'main' unicycle resembled a character they used in one of their shorts.
