This thread will most likely contain spoilers. You've been warned.
Ok, so I just got back from seeing the movie and I wanted to get you guys' opinion on it. I know that there have been a lot of mixed reviews on the movie. Some of my friends say they loved it, and others say that they hated. I personally loved the movie, mostly because I agree with pretty much everything in
this
review of the movie. My biggest quip with the movie was that it was a little short.
:(
But yeah, what are you guy's thoughts on it? Also, everyone excited for the upcoming Avengers Movie where they bring all the heroes together?
PS.
- Am I the only one that noticed Hawkeye?

That's what I'd like, but those efforts haven't been very effective.

Thor was an okay movie, it was really pretty, but there was one point that really grinded my Goddamn gears:
It's a movie about how logic is a horrible, horrible thing, and you should trust your feelings and your vagina all of the time.
Why?
Let me tell you why, mother#$%^er.
(SPOILER ALERT)
There is only one sensible person in the entire movie: Odin, but he spends most of the time dead, so it doesn't really matter. Why do you say that, Sagramor? Well, this is why:
The main plot of the movie starts on Thor's coronation day, when Odin is about to step down as Ruler of Asgard and Thor is about to take his place. Now, even at this time we've already seen that Thor is an aggressive, self-righteous, stuck up little prick, but no one seems to notice that, they still want to give him the crown, for the simple fact that he's the fist born. The only person that does notice he would be the #$%^tiest king since Louis XVI is Loki, so he hatches a scheme to make sure he doesn't get to spread his $%^&tines over everyone's face. The plan begins with him opening the way to Asgard to some Jotuns, because he, being not retarded like everyone else, knows that you could bring an entire platoon into the heart of Asgard, and that huge, face-melting robot Destroyer would, well,
destroy
them. I don't actually see why they just use that thing to solve all their problems, but, considering how many other problems this plot has, I'm sure that's beside the point.
So, ANYWAY, Loki brings those Jotun into Asgard on Thor's coronation day, because he, having a thought, knows that Thor won't resist the opportunity to get revenge on the people that ruined his stupid ceremony. And he's right. A few minutes after the ice giants ruin everyone's day, Thor is on his little way to Jotunheim, to have a chat with the King of the Jotuns, even though his father, mother^&*!ing ODIN told him not to. But that doesn't matter to Thor, because, as Loki knows, he's an idiot. It's really impressive that no one else notices that. Even Heimdall, who is supposed to be this omgwtfBBQ character that kills everyone and knows everything thinks it's, "Oh, allright to let Thor and his very well warmed friends have a little chat with the king of ice giants, even though they just ruined his coronation, and the Aesir have a very unstable relationship with the world. But it's okay, because Thor has been show to be a sensible, calm, individual." In case you didn't notice, that was sarcasm, and 5 minutes into their trip into Jotunheim, Thor has already started a
MASSIVE INTERPLANETARY WAR.
And still, everyone sides with Thor. For the sole reason that he's their friend, future king, and first born. Contraty to what people think, this movie isn't about questioning authority, it's about silently and quickly obeying the !@#$ out of it.
So, you might be thinking, well, okay. Thor is an idiot, we get that. But Loki caused all of this. Yes, he did. But Loki, as I've said before, has a goddamn brain, so in his scheme he has also hatched out a plan to completely undo all the $%^&
Thor did
, which would end with:
The jotuns and their king dead.
Their entire race no longer a threat to the universe.
Either him or Odin on the throne, arguably, the only two people in that entire goddamn universe who deserved that spot.
ANYWAYS, after causing (at least partially) all that massive #$%^, Thor get's rightfully banned from Asgard, and for some reason, all of his friends think he didn't deserve it. Oh, it's not like he just broke a millennial long-peace with one of Asgard's most ancient enemies. The only person who thinks he should stay banned is Loki, and everyone turns against him, for simply
saying that
. Yeah, fair. They don't think to question if Loki is right for even one goddamn second.
Meanwhile, Thor gets to Earth, where he bumps into Natalie Portman, an actress whose entire contribution to this movie was making me constantly think "You were on BLACK SWAN, Portman, why are you doing this to yourself?"
After some funny hijinks that involve Thor battering against Hospital employees, he and Portman start talking, and sharing, and connecting. Wait, no. He takes his shirt off in front of her, and, suddenly, she starts believing that he is indeed
Thor, God of Thunder
. Now, I know, there's at least enough evidence to suggest he's an alien, but Portman is supposedly a physicist, people, she knows there are billions of planets he could come from. She doesn't stop to consider the possibilities, he has great abs (he does), so, automatically, he must be telling the truth about being
THOR, THE GOD OF THUNDER.
So, science and logic (and, somewhat consequently
depth of character
) is fun and all, but if a man has great abs, you forget all about that and starting acting like a stupid barbie.
So, after some other hijinks that end with Thor getting captured by S.H.I.E.L.D. and made Loki the king of Asgard, all of Thor's friends decide to come down to earth to unban him, even though, as I've said before, there is absolutely no reason he should not be banned. However, what's really troubling is that when they get here, they're not even slightly pissed off at him. They don't question what he did, they don't slap him in the face a few thousand times. It's all freaking hugs and kisses.
WHY?
This man is an over-developed child who wants to rule you!
So, Loki, seeing that these people are about to bring the
idiot
back to $%^& everything up, decides, very logically, to
not !@#$ing let them
. Sure, he might have handled that poorly, but still, they shouldn't automatically side against him for no goddamn reason, he has all the right to be pissed.
Anyways, some
deux ex machinima
happens and now Thor is Thor again! Yay! And he's back in Asgard! But wait, so is Loki...show-mother&*!@ing-down, biatch. They fight. And, well, it's an okay fight. They could've done better for the
GODS OF ASGARD, I.E. VIKING GODS
, but it's not bad. What matters is that, in the end, of the fight Thor decides to destroy Bifrost, the bridge that connects Asgard to the other realms. And he does that because...if he doesn't, the entire war that he started will be over with. Oh..no? The saddest thing, however, is that that's not the stupidest part of him destroying Bifrost. What is it then, Sagramor, you are surely asking as this point. Well, if you go back to the very begging of the movie, we'll see that the entire reason Asgard got into a war with Jotunheim is because the frost giants wanted to conquer Midgard (also known as Earth, for those of you who are not well-versed in Nordic mythology, though, in a WoW forum, it might not be that many), but they couldn't, because the Aesir showed up to save the day. Now, they showed up...because of Bifrost. Without it, there's nothing stopping the remaining jotuns from completely faceraping the Earth, which is likely, since they're probably wanting a new planet right now.
And, still, everyone sides with Thor.
Goddamn.

Ah darn, completely forgot about the General Movie Discussion thread. Curses.
The way I see it Sagramor, was that Odin wanted to give Thor a second chance and see if he could redeem himself. He's Odin. He's the Allfather. When he sits on his chair he can see everything going on in all of the nine realms. I'm pretty sure he wanted his sons to prove their worth so he could judge who wanted the throne.
The main problem with Loki sitting on the throne being that he's a frost giant and not one of the Asgardians. Also, he wanted to commit genocide. That's not cool.
I dunno if you've read any of the Thor comics or graphic novels, but if I remember correctly, Loki ends up more like Loki from mythology and just tries to make Thor's life hell. You should
read
over his biography, he's really not a nice guy.
Yeah, I agree with you that Thor is pretty stupid, but that's the point! He's supposed to be rash and headstrong. I mean, he's based on the guy that tried to fish up frikken Jormunger the world worm because he refused to admit defeat. He's not one of the super heroes that think things through a lot, he just allows his emotions to guide him.

That would make him a
bad
King, in my opinion, maybe a good hero, but definitely a bad King.
Until
character development
kicks in, anyway.

I agree with Sargramor to be honest. In my opinion Loki should've got the throne, the way that everyone looks over Thor's stupid mistakes is astounding. But the ending made me feel sorry for all of them - Odin lost a son, Thor lost his brother, through his own stupidity and Loki died. I never read the comics, so I'm only going on what the movie was like. And the romance on Earth between Thor and that girl was a waste of time IMO
:P
SPOILER
Watch what happens after the credits, Loki is still alive, hes going to be the central Villain in The Avengers.

Except for one, ill give you a hint about who.
Hes big.
Hes Green.
And in a physical fight he would smack Thors blond ass half way back to Asguard.
Every member of The Avengers brings something to the table, Thor may be the power house of the team, but the other members will no doubt show their worth before the end as well.
