Don't hate on people who die from cancer. Ezra is awesome. RIP
Why can't we? I mean what if they're a jerk? Just because they died from cancer that doesn't mean they weren't a mean person, one that you would hate?
If you're hating on a dead person, then the problem is yours, not theirs. They're dead - nothing you can do or say will have any effect on them. It's not like they're going to suddenly cast
Reincarnation
and go, "Oh my gosh you're right - I'm such a *#$^!" So it's pretty pointless.
We really wouldn't have much of a forum going here if everyone did that. Seems like a terrible idea really.
Well, I mean - what's really to discuss in this case? I'm all for open dialogue on issues - but as I mentioned in a post I deleted earlier, there's really not anything fruitful that's going to come out of a dissenting opinion on a topic like this, other than the self-satisfaction of posting in a manner that could be construed as flaming, no matter how carefully you word it.

So here's the thing.
You can disagree. You can even post about it--like, for example, "It's nice Blizzard did this, but this happened years ago and isn't worth a repost." Or even: "Why didn't Blizz do this for more people? Where are other cancer victim's monuments? I hate this kid for being 'special.'"
(Note: Neither of the above are my beliefs, just examples of disagreeing without being too tactless.)
But making jokes about a dead kid? That's something that we aren't going to promote on Wowhead, it goes too far. So if you disagree, find a reason better than because death is funny to you.

Hear, hear apologies for the pointless post

Honestly because nothing should be off limits to parody. I know it is a huge blanket statement, but stick with me here.
Certain topics are... very depressing. The current topic along with things like rape, murder, genocide ect. So lets say jokes on the current topic and rape and murder and genocide are banned from Wowhead. What about torture? what about birth defects? what about animal cruelty. make a topic "list all the things that you don't find funny" and leave it open for 1 day and you'll get 10,000 things. are all 10,000 things now banned from being made light of?
It seems kind of unfair that people with terminal illnesses are off limit when you are married to a double amputee and that topic is totally ok. (Disclaimer: I'm not married to a double amputee)
Now look in that same thread and see that you disagree with 9,000 of those things, you think they are perfectly fine to make fun of.
Now this is a forum on the internet. This is not America, there is no free speech. but this argument applies even more to in a place that prides itself on free speech when people say "too soon".
I'm not trying to be mean. In all honesty I had a close friend who had to stop running cross country with me at the age of 15 because of cancer, and died 1 year after finishing high school. But saying humor of certain topics is not allowed is a slippery slope.
So... that's why I disagree. It's not because I find death funny, I fight my hardest against it in my profession. But get to know any medic/fire fighter and you'll find an INCREDIBLY morbid sense of humor, almost required.
It isn't about disrespect, humor is a human form of coping. If you want a good description of humor read Stranger in a Strange Land. Humor isn't happy or good, it is sad, and laughing is how we deal with it.

I don't agree, jokes about murder or rape or birth defects or genocide aren't really appropriate here either. If any of these appeared on WoW General, they would be also warned. They have not (probably appear in OT, but we do not moderate OT very much) so it's irrelevant.
It's one thing to make a joke between friends or in an off-topic thread. It's another entirely to make one in a WoW General forum when it should be about WoW--not tasteless jokes.(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##Ashelia##DELIM##

So, what your saying is that this should be moved to Off-Topic?
No, I'm saying this post was posted about WoW and has a place in WoW General--so people shouldn't act like it's off-topic ( say that OT is less moderated and more ' fun') and fill it with jokes about dead kids =)

I'm not hating on Ezra
, I'm simply saying that I'm getting tired of someone finding out about him and posting his story all the time.
You just contradicted yourself, and made yourself look like a jerk. So can we hate on you?

If this were true, the newpapers sure would have been different last Monday, May 2nd.

Y'know what? I'm derailing the thread. Done here; I've made my point. If anyone wants to continue the side discussion we can do it elsewhere.

**Im comparing this 10 year-old with Osama Bin Laden.**
Good one. Still inappropriate. Consider walking away sooner than later...
Yeah, except I didn't say that.
