I was never one to really comment on blog posts, but I've definitely stopped paying attention to my RSS feed of the site. Some of the news posts are useful, especially when they pertain to the site and some new function on it, but since the new site went live, I just skip it and might unsubscribe. The forced long posts are just too bothersome for me to scroll through.
I hope that either the short RSS posts come back, or an option to have them is created (I know some comics have different RSS feed options depending on if you want just a link to the comic, just the comic or comic + commentary in your feed).
We were thinking of switching to Feedburner, which automatically shortens posts, so we'll keep this in mind if we make our RSS feed link different. I believe it is just a default RSS right now with no customization.

Clicking on the Wowhead News site feels like going to all the sort of halfway maintained blogs I've stayed away from for the last three years.
It's too busy and I have no desire to navigate through all that 'stuff'.
Good luck. :)

OK, so normally I don't post on the news threads anyway (on the forum), purely because by the time I actually get to it it's 4+ pages long and I seriously cba to go through and see if someone's already said what I was going to say. Chances are that someone has. The addition of yet another "YAY! WANT!" or "/cry. Do not want" comment is not, imo, a constructive use of anyones time.
I wouldn't have even posted here, but the question was specifically 'why u no post? :('.
With regards to the blog itself, I didn't even know there was one, so have never even read it, let alone posted on it. I did check it out a few minutes ago when I found a link in these comments, so I'll give you my quick impressions:
As someone above me said, the spacing and slight difference in the colour tones is surprisingly hard on the eyes. Honestly, the Wowhead design is one of the best I've ever seen.
Other than that I didn't notice any bugs (note that I was there for a total of 10 minutes and didn't attempt to post anything), and the only thing (other than the aforementioned spacing/colours) that stood out to me was that the page didn't fit my browser. However, I'm using Firefox, and I often have to adjust page sizes (Ctrl+
+
/

) to deal with various forums and webcomics, so that wasn't a major concern to me.
If the decline in posts and increase in hits happened overnight I would assume the new site is pulling in people who don't already have an account and can't be bothered to make one to leave a comment. I remember I lurked around Wowhead for about a year before I made an account to ask a question. Add to that the fact that some of us didn't even know about it, and some of us finding it difficult to read the comments section...that's probably your problem.

I've been hard-pressed to drag myself out of Off-Topic, mostly because I'm on a hiatus from WoW. I think a combination between an information overload, a new layout, and a new content patch may be what's to blame.

Well, I'm not entirely sure if my feedback will be helpful, but I suppose I can try to give my opinion.
For the new blog layout, I did have a look at it myself. It all does look rather nice, but for myself, I was rather used to the old layout where I could just look here on wowhead and read it quickly. I usually don't comment much because, as it was previously mentioned, typically someone has already said what I would have stated and all I'm doing it adding to the pages that most people aren't going to get 5 pages into.
However, what did get myself to reply a bit more was responses from the admins themselves. It was actually the main reason I stopped to read this thread and decide to post myself.
All in all, your new layout is nice, but maybe it needs to be "advertised" a bit more to the general public of wowhead? Another reason is that, once again as someone stated (Interest), with the release of 4.1, people could be just getting in and out so they can return to playing their new content.
My personal reason for less posting (I've hardly posted lately, but, this might be another) was that I'm used to the old layout and it seems more convenient to go with something I already know rather than try something else out that I have very little idea of how it works. I'll be honest, I haven't really given any effort to find out how the new layout operates, but maybe that's another problem?
Edit: Spelling.

I can't contribute good information... I can only say that I come to Wowhead for 2 things:
A forum to make smart ass remarks/be somewhat helpful in. (more so when my account is inactive)
The immense amount of data you've scrounged up on WoW (though I only need this when my account is active).
That being said: I think the news site looks damn sexy.

Wowhead has a blog?
Ah well try linking said blogs in the form of an inescapable relay from your homepage that should generate some comments!

I haven't had any technical issues (that I'm aware of), and don't dislike the graphics... I just haven't had much to add lately.
Like others have mentioned, I'm not actively playing right now. I don't know if I'll play again or not, but I'm still interested in what's happening, so I read the blogs. I'm just lurking a lot more and participating a lot less these days.
Also, most of the changes seem kind of weird to me (in game that is) since I've left, and I don't want to add a bunch of negativity in the comments - particularly since I'm not around and have no idea how these things will play out.

EDIT: Also, I just got linked via my post history to the Wowhead News blog for
this thread
, so tried using the comment interface there. It was incredibly unresponsive -- I was inputting words way quicker than they were appearing on the screen. I wrote out that full sentence and had to wait for about 15 extra seconds for it to appear on the screen.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.17) Gecko/20110420 Firefox/3.6.17 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729)
XP 32 bit Home.
No other programs running; I had a few Wowhead tabs open at the same time.
That's odd, because I'll get the same issue (in Firefox 4.0, Vista) on Kotaku.com sometimes... it gets especially annoying when it decides to hiccup/catch up, and erase the middle of my sentence.
... not that they both have the same comment system or anything, just might be a problem mainly on the FF side.

I personally only want to visit ONE WoW community site - Wowhead. I haven't even gotten around to checking out the new blog site. But I don't like blogs anyway.
It sounds like the general consensus is that Wowhead visitors don't like a separate site.
And the notion that 'current WoW subscribers' is somewhat connected to Wowhead visitors is not accurate at all. I know 6-year veteran WoW players who don't know what Wowhead is, or never visit. I haven't come across many players in-game who ever mentioned Wowhead.

I usually leave a reply or two. But I don't anymore, because it's a separate site. Imo it should be wowhead.com/news or something instead. The layout on wowhead is just so much better.
This is what I'm thinking may be what happened, but it's a lot of dev time to make 2 versions (and a lot of people do prefer a new layout).
OMG. I feel dumb.
I know EXACTLY why this happened.
4.1 released, and therefore people are playing the game as opposed to posting on the forum. In short, they are experiencing the new content. I know this from experience, because my own posting activity decreases after a patch goes live and the maintenance is done.
So the fact that we released on 4.1 may have just ... hindered it for ourselves?
It's a hard sell for me, because we are getting a lot more views. But maybe people just wanna read the info and get out, as opposed to stay and chat about it.
That would make sense, actually. Reading guides, maybe posting questions, but wanting to try them out instead of write a response?

It's not really that bad now. Now that 4.1 has sunk in, people are posting more on Wowhead.
Of course, the blog posting and stuff may have been influenced by this thread lol.

I've been posting less on the blogs/news for a couple reasons:
1) I find the new site difficult to read for several reasons.
a. The gray background is several tones lighter than the wowhead.com background.
b. More text is in pure white, rather than near white like most of wowhead.com (Subject titles, Expand, etc)
c. The comment/quote box conundrum. I have had to reread a bunch of comments in order to figure out which ones were original comments and which ones were quote. The colors are reversed from Wowhead.com and it confuses my eye.
d. I have to zoom in several levels in Firefox to get the text to a comfortable reading size. This forces the side bar stuff off the side of the page, giving me a left/right scroll bar.
e. The side bar items are visually distracting and there is no way I have found to turn the off, collapse them, etc.
I have tried to comment once on the wowheadnews.com site. There were problems sufficient to make me give up. The text appeared very slowly in the comment box. It 'felt' like there was some script running on the page that was slowing it down, unlike the responsive, crisp feel at Wowhead.
Once I had entered my comment, I had to wrangle with reCAPTCHA. One word was perfectly clear, but the second looked like it had been stamped twice, badly and overlapping, making it all but illegible. After submitting, I was informed the entry was incorrect, and I tried again, with the same problem with legibility. I then was shown the comment form, blank, and my comment did not show up.
I could always try commenting on the forums, but it's more effort than I can muster to find the news posts I care about, open them up and leave a comment. Passive viewing has become much easier.
P.S. Thanks for asking about this, Asheila. :)
