Human Rogue on Kor'gall (EU). I created him shortly after midnight on the day of release. It took me 25 days of /played to hit 60 and then I raided a bit until I switched to druid which took me another 20 days of /played to hit 60 with. It was my main for the rest of vanilla though!
Leveling was such a chore back then...

troll warrior. He's still around, but at 80. He was my first 60, and my first 70. One of my last 80s (11 toons to 80 or higher), I just do not enjoy the class anymore.
He has been server transferred and name changed, but still exists. I started him Jan 26, 2006. finally hit 80 march of 2010. Never even tried to gear him

Human warlock at release. Played him for about a month or so, got to 28, give or take, quit the game until BC. First "real" main was a troll hunter who I still play at 85. He's the same name as my wowhead account.

My first character was a tauren warrior, in Classic. I leveled as Arms, and switched to Protection for 'endgame' (back when Molten Core was 'endgame'), solidifying myself as a raid's Main Tank for many, many moons. When rumors of TBC were starting, I opted to try an orc hunter as my alt, to see what ranged DPS was like, and I found myself tanking less and less.
When TBC launched, I shelved my warrior. I was burnt out on tanking. I continued playing my hunter, and also leveled a blood-elf paladin to try endgame healing. That was a bit of a mistake, as I did not enjoy paladin healing (in the state it was in, during TBC) and my focus again shifted to my hunter. I pretty much exclusively DPSed for my entire raiding tenure in TBC on my hunter, and rolled a few alts (mage, rogue, druid) to fool around with.
In Wrath, Protection warriors received a retrofit and tanking became fairly fun, but my warrior was still largely shelved. Mid-Wrath, I started playing him a DPS (Fury) alt, and enjoyed that, but again my hunter was numero uno.
For Cata, I rerolled my tauren warrior as a tauren paladin. See, Wrath was a very exciting time, story-wise, for my character, and although I didn't play him much, the Lich King and Death Knight storylines were pretty personal for him (in Classic, he was extremely proud of his service to the Argent Dawn). When Cata made tauren paladins available... well, it seemed like a natural progression for his training. He's now my alt, played regularly alongside my hunter main. The 'warrior version' of the character, the original, still exists, but only as an entry on my character selection screen.

My first character was a Night Elf Priest back in release of Vanilla. Rocked it as my main up until Cata... then I race changed to a gnome.
How I've waited so long to have gnome priests. <3
The thing I was most paranoid about was losing my /played. It's a long time, and nothing to brag about (mainly because I've been playing so long and I'd rather not tell anyone D:), but it's mine.

My first character ever was a night elf hunter, who i deleted after 5 mins. Then I made a tauren shaman and played him 'till level 28 or something, really slowly and enjoying it. Then I stopped playing for an year and then I made a tauren hunter, that I loved and still love.. will never forget him..
