It's all true and something we'll be keeping an eye on as we go through but I would expect
to keep Orcs well on top no matter how high the gear gets since pets scale from our gear and that ability scales from pets.
It will be a difficult decision when we get deep into 4.2 and beyond how I keep this thread current. The profile I've used will always be a reasonable starter set but will get less and less relevant to most raiders. As such I may actually have to update the current info to reflect game mechanic changes AND create a whole duplicate set with a higher ilvl profile O.o

Yes the Incinerate Glyph is an important part of that profile. I'll go and update that entry now to make it more clear what was simmed.
Also, I'm very glad you're finding it useful.
Edit to add: It's also worth bearing in mind that the Incinerate build also represents a greater shift to DoT damage with a talented Corruption. This sort of shift means that you have a build that sims very close to optimum on patchwerk tests but can actually provide an advantage on fights where standing and nuking is interrupted or prevented entirely.

Reforge differences!
DPS
Difference
Percentage
Demonology
Haste 20343
Mastery 20019 -324 -1.618%
Crit 20000 -343 -1.715%
Destruction
Haste 20156
Crit 19809 -347 -1.752%
Mastery 19701 -455 -2.310%
Affliction (SB)
Haste 21195
Crit 20892 -303 -1.450%
Mastery 20740 -455 -2.194%
This is a slightly less rigorous test since the gear set used doesn't properly control the amount of a stat being reforged but after a recent conversation with a guild-mate I became intrigued as to exactly how big a difference one can expect to see by completely reforging all one's gear to an alternate stat priority.

I hope there's some function beneath the form but I'll take the compliment all the same.

I didn't change any gear for the professions. It's just enchants/gems, passives and abilities.
My thinking was that it just starts to get messy if you're including epics that certain professions can make and they're gear choices that are only applicable to this tier. Though I really should have made a specific note of exactly what was tested.
Professions was one of the trickier sets of sims to run if I'm honest. I'll make a note in the main page.

But this is the problem. While it might be a decent gain for the profile I'm using for these tests, it would be a negligible gain at best for my own character.
With this project I'm not trying to determine optimals and best practices just get an idea of what things are really worth. I'm using the profile simply as a baseline to try and extract percentage values for things that might have some applicability to all of us.
This is a far from airtight approach but that's what I'm setting out to do and this approach makes using these sorts of things skew the results in favour of professions which may not actually be at all better. I've made a note that those professions may have more to offer at different gear levels.
btw, I see EJ's results for the trinkets but I don't see anything at all special about that trinket from the tooltip. Anyone know what the deal is? Same amount of Int found on any blue trinket. Same size proc - 20secs in 2mins is normal. Looks like a standard blue trinket, is it just linking up with demon soul?

I was wondering the same thing the other day. I
think
insert disclaimer here it is because its the only trinket with both a static INT on equip AND a spell power effect on use.. Int and SP are just that much better then secondary stats. That is my guess

Asakawa can you please add the Shadowflame Glyph to your Destro results?
Also the pet comparisons for destro, is that with or without the Glyphs? Can we have both up there?
And you sims show that Doom and Gloom comes out as better per talent point than Imp Corruption, so what is the best place to place that extra point if you choose to go down that route?
Post by

The shadowflame glyph gives a movement speed reduction so there's nothing to test.
All pet options are tested with the best three glyphs and that means with the pet glyph in (almost) all cases since the imp and succubus glyphs are so strong.
Yes, interesting that isn't it. 2/2 D&G and 1/3 ICorr might be the best overall.
The weak point of the talent options is that it can't show how the talent options interact. A good example would be bane and SnF (for demo or affliction). My tests take a bare bones, main spec talents only build and add different talents and test them. However, SnF will be better if you have Bane and Bane will be better if you have SnF.
So, I would suggest you run a few of these D&G options in full builds and see how they compare. If they turn out to be a DPS increase (even a marginal one) over more popular/traditional options then let me know and I'll add an extra entry for the build as a whole.

I might have missed it, and I'm sorry if this was said, but Asa what where the other actual builds you used? I notice in the demon you linked the builds, but the other specs they weren't (unless IE was screwing up for me...)
but also, great work on this.... now to actually make it work for me ;)

Ah thanks for letting me know about that, it was a complete oversight. I've added the builds to the talent options sections. Let me know if you need any more clarification (or if i missed anything else ^_^)
