I think my dream group would be (given everyone is fairly skilled):
Prot pally
Resto druid
Shadow priest
Mage (any spec)
BM hunter
Nice CC (in the rare occassions it's needed with a tankadin), fantastic buffs (Wild, Fort, intellect, Blessings, +70 resistance to any except arcane, Ferocious Inspiration), all mana users so the spriest would really shine, good dps. Would likely rock anywhere.

In terms of group synergy there are 3 basic models I look for:
1)
Mana Regen/DPS
Shadow Priest is the core of this group since they provide the highest regen in mp5 thus increasing the longevity of dps.
Protection Pally receives a huge benefit from the Shadow Priest in not only increased mana regen from VT but also VE (in terms of Spiritual Attunement) which leads to a large tps increase.
Resto Shaman: Lets face the facts: shamans' abilities cost large amounts of mana but they're very powerful; chain heal is godly and earth shield allows the shaman to concentrate on other members of the group. Shadow Priests allow for a huge degree of flexibility for a resto Shaman.
BM Hunter are great dps, can provide a viable offtank in case of emergencies and have the second best CC in the game. Ferocious Inspiration is up all the time and helps take things down quickly.
Fire Mage have the best CC and hit like a truck on steroids. Their myriad arcane abilities are a great bag of tricks that can help with all pulls.
2)
Melee
Feral Tank's have incredible synergy with melee dps; LoTP makes all other melee abilities scale upwards and they generate really good threat in both single and multi target modes.
Combat Rogue is a great source of dps, cc and offtanking. Rupture is enhanced by the tank's Mangle and any locked boxes the group comes across are free loot.
Survival Hunter have shorter trap cooldowns than the other 2 Hunter talent trees as well as providing a huge dps increase in the form of EW. The rate at which EW can proc also receives an increased chance from LoTP.
Enhancement Shamans deal out a large amount of dps and have really good synergy because of their WF, GoA and Unleashed Rage abilities. They also have a Combat Rez and other great totems like Grounding or Tremor which make them an excellent support class in 5 mans.
Holy Priest is the class with the biggest amount of tricks in the healing bag. PoM works wonders with melee groups and CoH is one of the best group healing spells in the game. Large big heals, short heals, HoTs and shields, a Holy priest has every heal for every situation, which is what a melee group would probably find themselves in.
3)
Hybrid
Protection Warriors have the best tanking abilities in the game: they can take a lot of damage like druids and also have increased blocking capabilities like a paladin. They have plenty of Oh Shit buttons in case the healer is slow with a big incoming and have the best tps increasing abilities. Its hard to go wrong with a warrior.
Holy Paladin bring the best buffs to the game in terms of Imp. BoW , BoK and BoS which allows any class to maximize their potential. They also have the most efficient heals which allows them to keep people up for long periods of time. Their shields allow other classes to be saved if necessary and can also save their own ass, if needed.
Frost Mages can dps and CC of course, but they can also kite and intentionally draw aggro to themselves with a judicious use of Ice Block. Their dps is steady but causes much less threat than Fire allowing them to burst and not get the mobs' attention.
Affliction Warlocks have the biggest dots but also increased versatility in their curses. CoE and UA provide unique aspects to fighting mobs that like to chase or dispel themselves. They can also take a ton of damage and do some off-drain tanking when needed.
Feral Druids are the heart of a hybrid group: they can tank,dps, heal and even rez all in the same battle. They are the epitome of versatility which is needed to combat all situations.

This is my group. I don´t know if it´s the best one but i swear it is funniest one. No CC but rogue´s sap, only dps and perfect buffs complementation. Druid can deal with 3 or 4 mobs at once with no problem and if there is a 5th one the 3 dps can bring him down in seconds. If you want make heroic runs in record time, this is your team, just change the healer for your favourite one (a paladin could be fine for buffs).

Id say something along the lines of:
Feral druid tank.
Holy paladin healer.
Mage for CC and dps.
Elemental shaman for dps and totems.
Rogue for CC and dps.

Mage - CC, high damage
Shadow Priest -zomg, need I say more?
Prot paladins are awesome tanks, multi target so aoe potential (plus im a prot pally, gotta include myself)
Resto. druids are really awesome, I will take any healer except shaman, however
fire mage, shadow priest, and affliction lock all help each other out immensely with their debuffs and do massive dps together
EDIT: Kings + Blood Pact + Fortitude + Mark of the Wild = a crapload of stamina
