I have had 4 RL friends and 10, yes 10 guildies come back to WoW after they were hooked on the beta and launch of Rift. They didnt say it was really similar to WoW but they didnt think it was a good enough game to just drop all their invested time with WoW that they built up. And yeah another thing im hearing about already is how the Rift invasions are already boring, the soul combinations are going to be narrowed down to cookie cutter specs, so a unique little snowflake toon will probably get denied alot of groups. Its good to see another MMO make a name for itself, but people trying to compare it to a 6yr old game that has had 3 major xpacs is retarded. Play it if you want but dont be like some of these delusional idiots trying to tell themselves its better than WoW just because its something new. And on my server (proudmoore) you cannot tell any difference in population.

Murrdurr, I dunno if you're trolling.. but if you aren't, i mean did you lose a bet about Rift or something? Your hate toward Rift seems very personal and irrational.
Um what? lose a bet? dude what the !@#$ are you talking about? Sure I might not be as nice when I post about things but that doesnt mean I am some "troll". I have no hate towards Rift, I tried and didnt care for it and moved on, sorry I do not express myself in a "nice manner" thats not me. Didnt mean to make you cry about it.
This is a WoW site. We all like WoW. You don't have to convince us that WOW is good.
I never tried to convince anyone that WoW is better and that Rift sucks, seriously where in the post gives you that idea? I just gave a general statement on what a few RL friends a some guildies thought about there experience with the game.
a unique little snowflake toon will probably get denied alot of groups.
You could say the same about every MMO. I don't see how this means Rift sucks.
I am well aware of that, I never said that WoW never had unique snowflakes, because trust me there were tons that thought their dumb build would be good for anything and it ended up being good for nothing, just with Rifts soul system there is and will be alot more of those type of people.
but people trying to compare it to a 6yr old game that has had 3 major xpacs is retarded.
... so it's retarded to compare video games of the same genre to one another? Because one is
older
? So I guess that means Ultima Online is waaay better than WoW! You'd be retarded to think otherwise. /rolleyes
Yes I feel comparing a game thats been out for a month, with not even as much content as WoW had at launch, to a game thats been out for 6yrs, 3 major xpacs and old world overhaul is a little dumb.
these delusional idiots trying to tell themselves its better than WoW just because its something new.
Right. Anyone who doesn't like WoW better than any other video game is a delusional idiot...
especially
if the game is new. mmmkay. This is utter nonsense. I hate to use the word "fanboy", but I think it applies here.
Did I say anyone who doesnt like WoW is a delusional idiot? Nope I did not, the delusional idiots I am referring to are the people who actively bash WoW in every way possible because for some reason or the other needed a new game, needed something so that they can finally stop playing WoW and once that came out they were all on the bandwagon spewing crap. If you look around the internet theres tons of them, theres tons of people who bash Rift also which I think is dumb to.

Where's the both option?
Though I'm taking a break, I've been playing WoW since a couple of days after release. I don't feel the need to prove to anyone how much I enjoy/have enjoyed it.
I'm currently playing Rift. I know that a good deal of my enjoyment stems from the fact that it's new. I'm not sure if I'll be so enamored with it once the new and shiny wears off, but for now? It's fun, so who cares.
Liking one doesn't mean I hate the other. Though there are similarities, they feel like totally different games to me.
So... Mario or Sonic?

I haven't tried Rift yet, but I am thinking about it. My only questions stem from:
1) I play a lot at off-peak hours. I have read that the game is almost unplayable because there are not enough people to handle the Rifts. Even though they scale with online population, it has been noted to be an issue where all the quest areas are basically over run. Has anyone experienced that?
2) Deafult UI........I'd miss my mods sooooo much. I don't care about Recount. Mostly my Pitbull, Vuhdo, and Dominos. I never liked the way the default player/group frames looked or were positioned.
3) PC Requirements. I don't have an uber PC, and I've read that if you play Rift on low settings, it looks horrible. So, Rift on high settings >>> WoW on high setting. Rift on low settings <<< WoW on low settings. Anyone know if this is true?
1. From what I heard, it was just the people that rushed to 50 and found themselves alone in the high level zones that had this problem. I've never encountered a point where it was a problem. However, the problem for me, at this point, is that while Rifts are boring, invasions are even moreso.
2. The default UI is pretty customizable. You can literally move everything around on the screen. I don't use many mods (I use recount when I DPS to gauge my performance), so I'm not the best person to answer this one.
3. You are correct. I can't play this game without pretty high settings. I do think it looks good on high settings albeit a bit boring, but it's just ugly, to me, even on medium settings.

You ask whether to play Rift or WoW in a site called
wow
head?
Isn't that a bit like going to the Mage subforum and ask, "which class is more awesome, Mage or Warlock?"

So I have a question for people who have played both Rift and WoW: what are some major mechanical differences between the two?
There are four basic class types, but there's a lot of play within them. There are rogue and cleric tanks, rogue and mage healers, warriors with pets, and pure support souls (buffs, debuffs, crowd control, etc). You can pick up every soul for your class, but there are definitely some balancing issues to work out.
The Rifts are fun, but they can be tedious if you're in a crowded zone and want to quest in peace. Going afk in the middle of some random town is not a good idea, NPC's
will
take over the entire thing and ruin your day. Sometimes you can clear them out alone or with a couple of people... and sometimes they're elite and will stomp your face. Good news is they're timed, so they'll go away on their own. Eventually.
One thing I really like, is that exploring and mountain climbing are really encouraged. There are lots of hidden places, dancing squirrels, achievements for exploring caves, puzzles in each zone, and "ancient cairns" that contain decent loot when you find them.

The answer of course is....
Neither!
Go outside and play!
Video games will rot your mind!
Or something ....
Time to go play Wow.

I have been playing WoW and Rift together at the moment, both have pros and cons.
Rift has things that WoW doesn't.
Wow has things that Rift doesn't.
