The Book of Flame and Shadow
<An Account of Alnerigo Flamehowl, Pyromancer and Demonologist>
I write this account as we have just brought a friend Zezi from the brink of madness and death. Her father, a warlock of no small skill, stole her away from us to the land known as Hellfire Peninsula.
Ga’Crane, a troll potion doctor who was recently tainted by Void-Maw, a former colleague of mine, and given Shadow powers, went after her. We returned her with a very complex curse known as “Tainted Mind,” at least I assume so from my study of the spell.
It was originally created by the undead mages of Plaguelands, those concentrated around Stratholme, which were given more powers. They cast the spell on the brian, which forms the brain’s mental landscape into a maze, and splitting the consciousness of the receiving party into several small parts based on their memories.
This curse is generally cast by the mages in combat, which reduces its effects as the receiver is focused on combat. Or one would assume, as any who succumbed to the effects would join the Scourge in death.
I believe that the curse could be expanded. A few more sigils could be added to the curse, which would then cause the memories to decay, slowly driving the recipient into madness, even if they managed to slay the caster and escape, but I digress.
We discovered the counter spell, which required a skilled psionist to penetrate the afflicted mind and track down the memory which they are desirous to be dominant, and convince that memory or fragment of personality to take a hold of the psioists version of events, bringing that personality to the fore and driving away any madness that may have taken root. This all relies on the willpower of the recipient.
A circle of purity should be drawn before attempting this, to stop any mental invasion occurring while both are incapacitated.
A memory was brought to the fore today of a friend from the Academy, one Korathieas Corelight. He specialized in Holy Fire, combining the Light and arcane Fire in ways never before seen. His focus was on trying to prove that the Holy Light is just another form of magic.
I, being as staunch supporter of the Shadow, paid avid attention to his experiments. One in particular stuck out to me, one where he took Arcane Fire in one hand and set a target dummy alight. The fire burned through the dummy, but once the fuel was gone, it fizzled out.
He was perplexed as to how it was possible that the fire could move through the air, but must have fuel once it alights.
Curious, he tried it with Holy Fire. Instead of moving through the air like Arcane Fire, it set the dummy directly alight, but fizzled out immediately. He later confided in me that the power seemed to have flowed out of him, leaving him unable to cast any sort of Light magic. Since then he was been unable to.
This has made me curious as to the nature of the Light and Shadow. Perhaps they are based on one’s moral views of the universe?
((My apologies for the shortness))

Alright, some writer's notes:
1. Once again, I apologize for the shortness. A surge of rage had gone through my house, and I decided to post this before the anger turned to me and the computer.
2. This is supposed to be more magical theory than actual story, although I will add more story later on. This is kind of a place for me to get my ideas on Warcraft magic out.
3. And lastly, this exists in no time period. He will use examples from his history (this is kind of made to expand Flamehowl's history a little bit), but also things from A20 and others.

I was thinking of doing something kinda like this as Skreel, although it was more fundamental theory, rather than defining specific spells.
