I saw a Queggy post, but where did it go?

You claim the government bans alcohol because of health reasons. I extrapolate that by that logic, they'd also have to ban cars and processed foods. So either that's not the reason they do it,
or their imposing an arbitrary ethical system on us.
I believe that ethics are subjective, so I agree with the bolded part. But the government's reasoning for banning alcohol before the age of 21 is that it is unsafe/unhealthy before the age of 21. Cars/processed foods are irrelevant. So, I still don't see where you're trying to take this discussion.

If you think
banning cars and processed food will make the country safer, then that's fine with me
And that's where you're argument loses all credibility.
You just gave the government the authority to do whatever the heck they want if they think it's a good idea.
Lol@dictatorship.

Arbitrary =/= subjective

Yeah, that...that wasn't the main point of that post...at all...
The other part was already answered in my previous posts. He's just repeating himself again.

You silly Americans and your drinking at 21; real countries let their children drink at 19.

Why allow alcohol at all when you're banning cocaine, marijuana and heroine?
The government is already imposing an arbitrary ethical framework. You'd be foolish to think otherwise.

You think the government only has stuff if Laihendi gives it to them.

Do you not know my position on drug legalization?
I'm with squish here - unless this is an arbitrary system, everything that has a harmful effect should be banned or at least regulated to the point of it no longer being used in a harmful way.
And I say that's an absurd idea, because everything is harmful to someone in some way.

Perhaps regulation should be regulated.

Yeah good luck with that.
@OP I personally agree that the age limit should be lowered or that the age of adulthood should be raised. But it is a silly argument since the majority of people who do the whole " you can die in war" argument are not even in the military and do not have family members in the military and have no worries about your siblings and yourself dying(so drinking while it can be relaxing should be least of your priorities while in a combat situation).

I do know it. All I'm saying is that an argument that the government should/does not impose an arbitrary ethical framework is irrelevant in the scenario that it already does.
Going back to your statement:
You claim the government bans alcohol because of health reasons. I extrapolate that by that logic, they'd also have to ban cars and processed foods. So either that's not the reason they do it, or they're imposing an arbitrary ethical system on us.
They're already imposing an arbitrary ethical system on us. Therefore, Laihendi is perfectly right to suggest that it's a possible explanation for why they ban alcohol before 21.
No commentary on whether such an ethical system is 'right' or 'wrong', only that it exists.
I'm with squish here - unless this is an arbitrary system, everything that has a harmful effect should be banned or at least regulated to the point of it no longer being used in a harmful way.
You're not with me here, because I don't have an opinion on what should be banned or not.

I actually don't.
Legalization of all drugs, hard and soft. Minors would not be able to purchase either, but may use soft drugs under guardian permission/supervision.
Indeed it is. The only way to not have an absolutist, 1984-everything-is-regulated-because-it-is-harmful system of government is for it to be arbitrary.
Or not give them any more power.
