Was the pally throwing salvation on the first group's DPS? That reduces threat by 30%. From the sounds of it the first group had "worse" gear, might have meant less DPS which means less threat, making it easier to hold agro.
Everyone should have an *updated* threat meter installed, it's not that much to ask really.

The second group was better geared and produced more threat than the first. And they weren't able to adapt to the situation, they just kept to their dps rotations without caring about anything else.
It could still work if at least they started focusing all on the same mobs and left you to build threat on others (they need to not be too squishy for that to work, but it seems the lock in full S3 would have been excellent for that role).

Why didn't the two SPriests mind control two mobs?

As a Paladin tank, I usually give everyone the buff they want, or one that will enhance them if they don't specifiy. The first time one of the DPS people steals aggro, they get Salvation as a penalty. Sometimes, I give it to everyone after a group wipe, just as a reminder not to be stupid.
If I have to take the time to learn to play my class properly, so should they. You want to just turn on autoshot and pet attack, and then wander off to get a coke? You get Salvation instead of Kings or Might. Have a nice day.

as it has been said already.
if a dps pulls a target out of kill order it's their fault. if it's healer pulling either they heal too soon or your TPS isn't high enough. as a tankadin i use avengers shield and judge a righteousness and bam. healer can't catch up.
But locks are normally the worst offenders and need told :)

If you lose aggro to a healer, that means you're a crappy tank, period.

The second time, a Lock, 2 shadow priests. and a Priest healer. All of them had epics. The lock in full S3.
We wiped three times in the first two pulls. That is ridiculous, I couldn't hold aggro for the life of me. Not only that, I would lose the mobs to the healer (who was just amazingly geared). I am fully aware of AOE tanking and have gone far as Curator.
Can you guys explain what just happen? I doubt I somehow forgot how to tank second time around. Was I to under geared for the DPS?
if you did the same and got different results, then the change was from them:
likely because of no salvation buff
could be that they were seriously overgeared (good dps-ers can work around this)
could be because they didn't know how to control their aggro. for example, my shadowpriest doesn't use Vamperic Embrace on trash pulls because it just causes more threat for an inconsequential amount of healing. they may also have been casting too soon (e.g. before the mob is within your melee range)
