What Thrall was in WC3

In paganism, the wolf is the most spiritual of the animals. Just as Blizz has taken the concepts and ideas from other religions/mythologies and integrated them into the game, so too did they take the spirituality of wolves from paganism.
Captcha: I don't normally comment on this, but nomTV was too good not to mention. I'd watch that channel.

"Paganism" is a huge category... You may be referring to Wiccan/Neowiccan/Pseudowiccan/Wannabewiccan philosophies.
In other cultures, bears are revered. In ancient Japan, bears were regarded the equals of humans, by some. Or in other cultures, the chosen animals are Cows. (See Hinduism) Or Owls, Coyotes, etc... Or, various other animals.
And if you're using the historical (conventional) use of "Paganism", then you would be referring more likely to the Greco-Roman polytheistic traditions.
I've always found it fascinating (and ironic) that many "modern pagans" (usually going by the name of Wiccans) will call themselves Pagan, and even subscribe to the ancient Greco-Roman dieties... when, if one studies one's history, the Romans were the genocidal obliterators and cultural oppressors of the ancient Druids.

I skipped most of this thread as it's a tl;dr to me.
Because Warcraft lore comes from this place known as the "real world" in some form of it. Shamans came from Native American's who believed their ancestors visited them in the form of a spirit wolf to guide them.
Or did you forget about the real Shamans?

Paganism was the term for the "county people's religion" in Latin, coming from "paganus", which roughly means "country person". The religion the Romans stole from the Greeks would not have been viewed as Paganism by the Romans.
I don't think we're really in disagreement.

Far more than Native Americans. Look at Africa, aboriginal peoples in Australia, and even some Asian traditions. This is NOT localized to one, single part of the world.

Slightly off-topic, but:
Who here would like to see a "Ghost Owl" flight form for us?
;-)
But owls are so typically night elfish. It would just feel wrong.
A ghost Raven would be much more fitting.
Would rather have an Eagle.
An Eagle would be a bit too much like Druid Flight Form. Owls are silent birds of prey, who hunt at night. And, they are associated with shamanistic cultural traditions as much as Wolves are.

As said before, owls are very closely affilated with the night elves. Their standard non-combat pets are owls.
There's even an owl who's in the Cenarion Circle.
So, how about Spirit Wyvern (Orcs,Tauren,Goblins) / Bats (Trolls) / Gryphons (Dwarves) / Something Draeneish?

I don't really have a problem with owls having been affiliated with Night Elves since ye olde WarCraft 3 days. The lore I'm relying more upon is general shamanistic lore.
Bats are already taken by Troll Druids, so that's out. A Wyvern or Gryphon would not be so much a natural but a magical beast... and shamans are all about the manipulation of (and cooperation with) natural forces. Seems to me that this would offend both sources (old Blizzard AND real-world) of Shamanistic lore.

Troll druids have bats. They don't have Spirit bats, which was what I was talking about. Wyvern and gryphons are both natural animals in Azeroth, so I don't see any issue with having them representing the link to the spirits. And how exactly would making stuff up insult real-world shamanism? It's fiction!
