Gearing for 2 items, rather than 1, is also a bit more troublesome. Would seem pretty dumb if you didn't get at least a few extra stats from taking the more difficult approach. I believe the Hunters are in the same boat with their stat-stick weapons.

Actually it's the opposite for us hunters, a
2h
gives better stats than
MH
+
OH
at the same ilvl.
Here is the stat comparison.
And there aren't many 1hand enchants worth picking up either. DWing just isn't viable for hunters anymore.
Sorry to jump in like that....I was just going to quietly lurk and pick up info for gearing my resto druid alt but I had to at least let you guys know about the weirdness that is gearing a hunter now.

Oh O_o Odd. Wonder why they would make it superior stats to use 1h+oh as casters, but superior to use 2h'ers as hunters... Meh, probably something to do with the balancing of weapon costumizations. I am not certain how the gear looks at an overall level, but perhaps it was simply easier to exclude hunters from the 1h weapons, to ease the pressure on the classes that uses them... *shrug*

Pretty much, but it is certainly limiting what hunters can weld as stat sticks for sure.
But back on topic.
Is MH+OH what you should be using after 80? And is it just for resto or do boomies use staves?

Thanks for the tip, I'm going to be putting it to great use in a few more lvls.

Here's on the epic level. Without enchants, the staff is slightly better than the MH/OH. With the 40 Int enchant, the MH/OH will be +35 Intellect but -7 Stamina, -4 Spirit, -4 Mastery, and -1 Raw Spell Power.
So yes, on one level the MH/OH will be slightly better. Availability is the only other thing you need to take into account.
I bought the BoE Spirit Staff since it was cheap and a big upgrade from the blues, and it was going to be a long time before I got the Nef MH and Council Offhand. So I'm happy with my weapons for a long time and don't have to worry about drops.

MH/OH is still going to be superior, but not by as much as it has been. Simple.

You are missing offhand 100 INT enchant..

As far as hunters dual-wielding goes: More of the total item budget between the two 1h weapons goes to raw weapon DPS than does the budget on the 2h weapon. Hence, less raw stats for stat-sticking.
You are missing the offhand 100 INT enchant..
Which is turning to a 40 int enchant come 4.0.6
