... isnt going to be the end game boss?
just seems kinda meh, beside sthe fact that with that big old fake lower jaw he looks decrepit, hes also been being shoved down our throats for almost a year now, witch yaa so was LK but deathwing dosnt half a smidgen of the backstory arthas did, hell most of the original wow players werent MMO fans, but WC3 players who wanted to keep it going. just curious what you guys thought, personaly i smell an old god

You didn't play warcraft 2, did you?
I'm asking because, if you did, you'd know he has just as much backstory as arthas did.

^
yep.
let's count them bro'
Arthas had 1 game (Warcraft III and it wasn't the whole game, only the human and undead campaigns, he is absent on the orc Campaign and makes a small cameo on the night elf Campaign) and the expantion of said game (he is absent on the night elf campaign, also absent on the
human
High
Blood-elf campaign, and the undead Campaign was all about him.)
so that makes 2/4ths of the original game, and 1/3rd of the expantion of that game. and he has 1 book (Rise of the lich king)
now Deathwing.
He shows up during pretty much everything that happens on Warcraft 2, and rather than have 1 book about him, he has War of the Ancients (3 books) Day of the dragon, and sorta night of the dragon too.
dude, if anything Deathwing has MORE backstory than arthas or the lich king ever had. Besides who's face is on the box? who's face is on the frikking login screen?

well i guess your right but my point was that WC3 was a lot more popular than 1 or 2, so bearing that in mind blizz kind of built up arthas since vanilla came out, since they left his story open. where as deathwing he kinda just dissapeared since WC2, then all the sudden poof here he is hes back. plus the trailer for caty came out b4 ICC was even finished, weve been seaing it for so long by thetime it launched i was honestly sick of seeing red black everywhere lol, plus with ragnaros back and how heavy the whole elemental theme here is i the end game boss is gonna be another old god.
also im gonna say this in warcraft lore nobody gave a ^&*! about deathwing till the first caty trailer rolled caus as far as most people were conserned his story had concluded. arthas was left open for like 8 or 9 years

Read the war of the ancients trilogy. Deathwings story was already being written long before the events of the first warcraft game and he has just as much story behind him as Arthas has.

im talking about in game, weve had quests involving arthas since plaguelands. BUT if we are refering to the war of teh ancients, if i remember correctly the old gods were the driving force behind that was well, witch gives more credibility to the fact that one of them are gonna be the end game boss. !@#$ this thread was supposed to be weather or not you think deathwing will be end game, not a "deathwing vs lich king, discuss" thread lol

Deathwing will be the Cata end-game boss, much like LK in WotLK.
Sargeras is likely to be the end-end-end game boss.

Yes he will be the end game boss.

He's on the box. He will be the end-game boss.
illidan was supposed to be the end game boss from BC, and he was on the box but kil'jaeden was the end game boss.

I really hope we end up fighting Deathwing twice. In one patch we fight him on Azeroth, and almost defeat him, and he flees through the Dark Portal back to Outland to his former lair there from WCII which has become an island floating out in the nether added in the next patch. (It would be east of Hellfire)
There we could launch the final assault and meet up with Turalyon and Alleria who Blizzard told us were alive, then didn't reveal anywhere, thanks a lot Blizz. They could be leading a new neutral faction, though the whole scenario might be a little too reminiscent of Isle of Quel'Danas.
I don't think this necessarily the most practical (or even remotely likely) but I think it would be a neat way to add more stuff to Outland and make it more then just leveling 58-68 as it is now, the lore nerd wants to find out what IS the deal with Turalyon and Alleria, and I also just think a massive floating island fortress of Deathwings is, well, kinda neat.

ejem..... what?
Illidan is not on the box (at least not on the cover, there's a blood elf (presumably kael'thas) and a draenei on the box of TBC.
and on the vanilla box there is a night elf and a dwarf, because back in vanilla and TBC there wasn't a single cohesive story, rather it was a bunch of short stories meshed together in wich all raids had NOTHING to do with one another.
starting from WOTLK onwards, each expact has 1 major badguy who is not to be featured in the initial release, and who is built to be the biggest boss in the game on the final patch till the next expantion rolls out.
just as on WOTLK (who featured the lich king on the
cover of the box
everywhere on the box, and who's castle is featured on the login screen) had 1 consistent bad guy, so too is cataclysm made on the same premise.
from last blizzcon we learned that patch 4.1 will add the firelands raid, and from previous blizzcons we've seen they plan to add at least 1 raid in uldum and 1 new Cavern of Time raid (based on War of the Ancients) so that gives enough content for 3 patches, and who knows if they will release an extra one before the final patch.
but one thing is for sure, wichever ends up being the final patch (prolly 4.4) D-wing is gonna be it's final boss.
I just hope blizzard has the guts to ACTUALLY kill this boss, as oposed to pull again that crap of "there must allways be an earthwarder" thing.

We killed Arthas, but didn't destroy the Lich King. We killed Illidan, but Kil'jaeden wasn't entirely in Azeroth, which is why we didn't kill him. We killed Kel'thuzad, but apparently no one thought to destroy his phylactery.
Malygos was killed, and Kalecgos is taking his place as the blue Aspect. I'd imagine that if the Black Dragonflight wasn't completely corrupted by Deathwing, there would be be a replacement Earthwarder, but seeing as how the entire flight is more or less under Deathwing's direct control, I don't see it happening.
