"Botany, is it?" Alexander asked after watching Nova for some time.
"Excuse my curiosity, but are you reading this out of boredom or for other, deeper reasons?"

"Well, if our captain is taking us where I think he's taking us, I suppose we could waste an hour or two and meet an old friend of mine, Jack Derrington. If you want to know about botany from someone with applied skills in it, "All-Trades" Derrington is just the man you need... To start with, at least," Alexander said, wincing at the sight of a damaged book.
"Good thing I've took that runt's blade, since-" he began, putting his hand on his belt and finding no trace of the kukri.
'
What the...
' he thought. A memory of a man in a wide-brimmed hat flew across his mind vision.
'
You bastard!
'
"-since who knows what's on the rat's mind, eh?" he chuckled uneasily, hoping Nova would only pay attention to the first part of his short monologue.

"You haven't even stepped on the big road yet," Alexander said, following her gaze.
"Tal'doren will be a new beginning for you, you just wait and see. The feeling of being..." he paused, searching for a word. "Complete, I guess."

A sliver fell at Alexander's feet. The druid picked it up.
"Ow!" he said suddenly, taking a splinter out of his finger and chuckling, "I have to be more careful."
Alexander began humming quietly, toying with the sliver that slowly began to change its shape. Several minutes later, after running his hand over the surface searching for roughness and finding none he handed Nova what looked like three interwined branches, almost flat.
"You look like you could use a bookmark."

"Always a pleasure. What's the word?" Alexander asked no one in particular, before murmuring, "Perks."

"Sort of homecoming, I guess. You know, sometimes you feel like returning to where it all started once in a while. Oh, and a common friend of ours awaits us there," Alexander explained, too quickly perhaps. Somebody skilled in reading body language would have understood he had been anticipating this question and had long prepared to answer it.

"And you, mister Caden?" Alexander said, remembering the name without any trouble whatsoever. "Where are you from?"

"Oh."
'
Yes, while some were living in a manor named after their family, some were beggars.
But then the manor was destroyed and the beggar became a fisherman. So it all evens out.
Not really...
'
"Now I'm confused, I thought you were in charge."
