Anyone else find the expansion 'disappointing'?

I don't know why, getting over my utter distaste of the UI changes (wtf were they thinking?) and the dislike for stat changes and the horrid talent changes, I find the expansion to be... rather disappointing. First off I have to say I don't have it on my account rather I watched my friend play and played a bit of his character. Getting over the fact that stuff is brand new I don't really find anything really that great. The dungeons I saw were a joke being so easy with the promise of CC being useless.
The starter zones looked rather nice and was interesting, but the same was with the new starter zones back in BC. It was interesting at first but it became such a bore after the first time. Leveling up I just can't see from what I saw at least myself managing to be entertained leveling up through 1-60 more then once and even then its really not interesting enough where I would get bored quest grinding despite it being a new experience.
I have heard that the leveling from 80-85 is rather lack luster being a linear experience, which can be disappointing to me, but I must admit I haven't actually seen this myself, much of what i seen of it being my friend running instances and doing a small dose of quests. As such I can't really judge it but hearing it mentioned a bit I am a bit iffy about it but again I can't really count it seeing as how I haven't really seen much of it.
I know my expectations had dropped a lot for cataclysm but I didn't expect myself to be looking at it and really finding myself completely disappointed by it. Did anyone else feel this way or is it just me?

You haven't even played it and your disappointed by what you hear other people say? Try playing it before you judge it.
Just like you should not respond to stuff before reading it through right?

I'm not sold on it yet. I vehemently dislike the rail you're put on with regards to questing. BC felt far more 'sandbox' (also my favorite expansion thus far) compared to the Quest Hub Hop dance we're all doing currently.
Leveling alongside horde is annoying due to zone size. Smuggler's Cove is a zoo still. It gets a little better once you're into Vash/Hyjal proper, but still. Oh and forget gathering mats for profs. Due to the size of the zones, everything is strip mined. I can't count how many times I get just get to a node of sometype, and someones just flying away with it. Feels very squished in.
The talents from 4.0.x are neutral for me. 41 points was a big ass tree, and the changes cut off a lot of the fat.
I do enjoy flight in Azeroth a great deal. The old world revamps are very welcomed. The level shake up (WPL at 40 or so?) are nice also.
I've only run Blackrock so far, and it was a complete let down. Done it under 20 minutes, and facerolled my way through it. There was zero need for CC, same as WotLK. I'm hopeful the other instances are different.
Quests are the same as always with the 3 varieties with a 4th wild card varient thrown in. Nothing new there.
Oh and the stat Jump is funny. At the tail end of 81, I did an Oculus run where the tank had a full 15K less HP that I did, and I had more than 18K MP than the mage. The joys of purps to greens.
It's not the best expansion (
though I've only scratched the surface
), but it could have been a lot worse.

You played your friends for like what? probably not even a hour tops? You really have no say yet. The 2 starter zones are a hell of alot more enjoyable than Howling Fjord or Borean. I cant speak for the lower level instances but the new ones are hell of fun, and besides its not like they said they were completely overhauling low level dungeons so youre really complaining about nothing there. Oh and your sig is very annoying, you claim wow is too easy because you got 4p of t9 in a day? well when all you have to do is farm heroics for outdated gear (yes t9 was out of date in july) of course its going to seem easy. If youre against the changes and think the game is too easy just dont play, I dont think anyone will care.

What? BC was the start of the "Quest hub hop" if anything original Azeroth was sandbox style giving you multiple options on where to go and such.

BC starts in HP but opens at the end to multiple avenue's at the end of it. One could skip full zones if they were not desirable. Cata doesn't. It's like a Rail Shooter.
You obviously feel differently.
Yay.

I like all of the UI changes. I like all the stat simplification. I like the talent changes. You saw normals, not Heroics. Everything will become a bore or a chore after the novelty wears off, but the starting zones are still vastly improved. I don't find linearity lackluster in and of itself. In order for the zones to have a story, they almost need to be linear in this case. Keep in mind that when you pick up your first quest for Hyjal or Vashj'ir, the Horde/Alliance is just recovering from the Shattering. All zones have a linearity to them to tell a storyline, both now and before 4.0.3a. That's complaint is fairly invalid.

The linear quest progression and over-aggressive phasing I find VERY disappointing.
Doesn't quite feel like an MMORPG anymore.

I agree.
Though with Cata, it's borderline forced to flow through to the next zone. No Variation. If I wanted to go from Grizzly Hills across the continent to Sholozar Basin and skip Zul'Drak altogether, it was an option. Not so in Cata.

I guess I can agree with you to a extent, but you gotta remember BC and Wrath you were gaining 10 levels giving you a bit of variety. Since we are only getting 5 levels in Cata im sure they wanted you to explore everything and not skip content.

I've enjoyed the expansion so far. Even the linear questing has not bothered me that much, as many of the quests have a very epic feel (conveyed through miniature cut scenes and so forth).
At the same time, I worry about the 'shelf life' of Cataclysm. Blizzard barely stretched Wrath's life out to 2 years, and that was over the course of 10 levels. With only 5 levels to work with, I'm wondering if Blizzard is not planning a quicker expansion this time around - or if they have a slew of content in the works (at least twice as much as what we saw for Wrath).

Not an option? I've skipped Deepholm completely and won't quest there until I'm 85. I outleveled Deepholm from the dungeons I ran and chose to skip it because I want quest rewards more appropriate to for my level.
Well then you're right.

No one's even mentioning that we can start over and have a blast as Goblins or Worgen right now. It's not ALL about Cata 80-85 goodness.
Cheers.
