Anyone else find the expansion 'disappointing'?

Well from an level 80 toon perspective...yeah it's could be a let down. The last two expansions introduced whole new worlds and 10 levels. I already see 84/85 level toons all over my server days after the release. So then what do you really have to look forward to again. Repetitive LFD runs again in the few dungeons available for that level. Immediately raiding again for new contents after endless boring months of ICC.
Now let see what Blizz went and did. They revamped much of Azeroth...new talent trees...new races...revamped attributes...flying in Azeroth...etc.
Hmmmmm...kind of tells me Blizz is trying to resell us Original WoW all over again.
So as a new customer your buying not 1...not 2...not 3 but 4 games. Sounds like a money making proposition for Blizz.
As an established customer..your choice is to go back and relive the past and level all over again albeit "new and improved" version or ...?(fill in the blank yourself)

No one's even mentioning that we can start over and have a blast as Goblins or Worgen right now. It's not ALL about Cata 80-85 goodness.
Cheers.
Oddly enough, I've no inclination to play either. They do
nothing
for me. That's great that others enjoy them a lot.

I plan on playing both, as well as rolling a Troll Druid. However, for those with no desire to level alternate characters, this expansion offers less in the way of new content than any of the previous ones.
That was the point I failed to make in my earlier post.

I guess I don't understand the point. If you only want to experience
less than half
of the new content created with this expansion, then of course this expansion offers less to you.
Conversely, if you want to experience
all
the new content ofthis expansion, Cataclysm offers far more than any other expansion.
I know of people who have played one character for six years.

True. Perhaps I should sack up once I'm 85 on my main roster and go try out the new stuff. Try out Horde for the first time in 6 years. Make a Worgen with a class I've skipped for 6 years. Most likely a lot of fun.

Exactly. I have a friend who has one character in WoW. He has no desire at all in alts. He likes to play that one character, one class, and that's it.
This person chooses to play that way because it's what he finds entertaining. And he's not alone. Essentially what you're arguing is that he should suck it up and do something that he doesn't enjoy; why should he?
It is his choice - but just because you don't understand it doesn't make it invalid.

Even if you don't level them to the cap, I would highly recommend playing through the Goblin and Worgen starting areas. The quests are very entertaining, and the zones are gorgeous.
I do agree with the person who earlier said that the quests now feel more 'connected' to the lore than ever before. Again, I'm not saying the expansion sucks - only that it offers a very different arrangement of content than any prior expansion, and that's a bit of gamble on Blizzard's part (in that the majority of the community will be satisfied with rolling alts).

My friend let me play on his account (I wasn't sold on it either, and haven't bought it yet) and I gotta say, I also agree with everything people have said about the oversimplification, the broken promises blizz made (hard dungeons? requiring cc? lolwut?), and especially the linearity and gimmicky feeling of quests, not to mention the overdone phasing. Also, I don't think anyone has said this yet, but I don't like the new "cataclysm" effect on zones, it makes every zone feel like it came straight from Outland, with some giant chasm of lava or random fissures or maelstroms, and I kinda wish the "cataclysm" was temporary, as I can't imagine levelling many toons through the new zones for some reason. I also honestly don't like the idea of flying mounts in lower-level zones at all. It was nice to have a large part of the game still be "grounded", if you will.
The new races are, IMO, the most unique and interesting yet, without being over-the-top and stupid (coughDRAENEIcough) as long as you ignore some of the voice work.
I'm of the belief that this expansion will "get old" faster than the others, and once this "new toys!" feeling wears off, we'll see how people really feel. Maybe its just a reflection of my declining interest in the game itself as I move on to other things, but I'm of the opinion that WoW is slowly edging over the cusp of a steep downhill slope.
Just because people will quote and flame me, I'll reiterate that this is all
IMO

Ok, as for the OP.....you may win the most ignorant post of the year award for that one. You watched someone play, and maybe played a little on their toon, and you somehow have an opinion on the expansion? If you want to offer your opinion, at least participate in the game.
As for my opinion (and I do play the game)...I have many of the same feelings as the other posters. I dont like the linear questing. It bunches everyone up, and it does take away from the "world" or Warcraft. It make it seem much more like any other game, and less like a world.
I actually really like most of the UI changes, talent changes, and stat changes. While I know there are some players that really liked theroycrafting and such, I do enjoy not having to do as much number crunching and min / maxing as before.
As for the new dungeons, as said, wait for heroics. The entry level dungeons were not what was promised to be so difficult, it was the heroics. And even with that said, if you take 5 people into Blackrock with NO idea what to do, that dungeon would be a lot more difficult than taking 5 noobs into Utgard Keep.

Honestly I think your answer is contained within the original post.
I love Cataclysm. I really honestly think it's the best work Blizzard has ever done. But your post makes the real truth clear when you talk about the UI changes, talent changes, and more—you're just not into WoW anymore.
That's okay. Six years is a long time to be into
anything
. If you're not into WoW then you don't need to look for validation—you're over it. That's cool. :)

I think Malgayne sums it up best. By the sounds if it you've reached that pinnacle point of boredom that everyone hits sooner or later.
Perhaps taking a long break, not just from wow but from mmo's in general may suit you. Even though there is fresh juicy content, the core of the game is still the same.
There is still that min-max level grind that if done more then once because a bore. Dungeons that become routine after the first few times and raids that you'll spend countless hours farming for new shiny epics.
Games become redonedent, boring and all have a natural life cycle.

i don't know where i'm at in the new expanstion yet to be honest.
i have 4 80's. . .but haven't really started leveling any of them yet.
my guild keeps asking me to come dps for them on 5 mans, and i don't even have any of my toons spec'ed atm haha.
just pretty much been taking it slow the last few days. . .taking my mage (night elf! <3 ) and slowly (VERY) working on my archaeology, and will eventually get her to 80 (she's on 76 atm), and she'll probably be my first to 85.
i'm not disapointed. . .i'm liking the new 5 mans. stonecore was a heck of a lot of fun to heal for me today on my druid, and the new 5 mans look amazing imo. . .i could live in stonecore lol.
i'm just taking it easy trying to figure out what i want to do. i'll probably be one of the last to 85 amongst the people i hang out with, and i'm fine with that. . .i def do not plan on raiding anytime soon.
