My Quandry with Judeo-Christian Beliefs

HiVolt
There is really only a single question that I have to pose to all of the followers of Judeo-Christian religions, and any others who may wish to add their opinions to this topic.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
God created man in his image, in his likeness. My question is: What does this mean?
Is it only the physical manifestation of man that represents god's image? Is it the spiritual body of man that represents god's image? Is it a combination of both? How far does that image extend to man, or in simpler terms, is god equal to man in form, spirit, demeanor, nature, wisdom, etc.? Do the imperfections of man reflect the imperfections of god, if we are created in his image?
And as a side question: What do you think of when you think of god? What is your mind's representation of god, even if it does not take a truly physical form?
I invite absolutely everyone with an opinion on the subject to comment, even if they only wish to answer the secondary question. I cannot stress enough that I am in no way looking to offend someone with this topic, or attack religious faith- I'm only curious as to what religious people really think on the matter. I welcome the use of scripture and doctrine if people wish to use it.
However, what I do not want to come of this thread is the thought that I am in some way wishing to convert to some religion. I am an atheist, and I will stay an atheist no matter what you say in this thread or outside of it. I'm only trying to gain a little insight into something I don't quite understand.

When it says in his image, I take that not as a physical manifestation, but something more. He created us in his image that we might think, feel, reason, etc.

HiVolt
My intellectual integrity forces me to disagree, my mind can be changed by evidence.
Indeed, should empirical, non-anecdotal evidence become apparent that some god or deistic force etc., exists- then I will change my beliefs to accommodate for that. But, I did wish to state that in the hopes that the thread wouldn't be filled with stories and scripture provided solely to attempt conversion. Ahh, nitpickery, how I love ye. :P

HiVolt, you should start believing in god so that just in case he does exist you go to heaven... if he doesn't then it doesn't matter if you believed or not.
It's like soul insurance. Your only investment is your time, intellect, and subservience to your religious leader.
Professing belief is a lot different that actual faith.

I'm the opposite. I belief he created us not only as a spiritual manifestation, but also in his physical image.

Also, to reply to the OP.
is god equal to man in form, spirit, demeanor, nature, wisdom, etc.?
He is equal in form, but above us in the others. However, we can become God if you obtain certain ordinances, etc.
Do the imperfections of man reflect the imperfections of god, if we are created in his image?
No. He is perfect. We were spirits (and also sinners in the premortal existence as well), so we aren't perfect. Our imperfections are our own.
19For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever
Basically your natural instincts are an enemy to God.

He's all-loving but hates atheists and homosexuals.
He hates nobody. A far as I know. If God hated you, I wouldn't be in your shoes for anything.
He's all-knowing but Biblical wisdom has proven over and over to be incorrect
The Bible isn't the full story. Jus' sayin'.
And he's all-present yet allows people, in particular children, to die horrifying and cruel deaths.
It's a test. He doesn't interfere beyond making sure his truth stays on the earth, and helping those with faith. This life isn't supposed to be a cake walk.
Also, I'm not going to debate with you. That's why I left vent. I answered the OP, and that is it. I'm not going to succumb to your idiot prods again.

He also orders entire cultures' annihilation, according to the Old Testament.
