I dont know about your question as i am confused but from what i can tell, pvp gear is better then pve for pvp in the arenas and the wrathful levels, BUT in the lower level pvp (lvl as in gear) pve gear can burst you down quite fast. so id have to say skill > gear. but pve vs wrathful = pve is owned.

Its not *unfair* its as if saying birds have an advantage over bulls because they can fly.. or that paladins have an advantage over hunters because they can heal.. they're equal. skill > gear.
I should have compared birds to alligators.. after all bulls dont have anything against birds.. but wth.
Edit2: the bird to alligator thing wuz my first edit btw.

My personal opinion is no it is not fair, simply because weapons and trinkets are often better than their PvP equivalents
they are not, making this discussion moot

Is it fair that people who spend time getting gear in PvE should be allowed to use this gear in PvP? What about things like Shadowmourne which might not be available to every single player in the game?
20% extra damage vs 20% damage reduction. Choice is yours.

For Christ sake, not again.
Ok 1st, I'll say something about me. I never was a great PvE player. I enjoy it and when I can do it, I can pull my weight as a tank or as a DPS. But my unpredictable schedule and my general lack of interest denied me the access to a decent PvE guild.
I never went further than ICC 10 8/12 and ICC 25 6/10.
PvE gear is not "unfair"
Why ? Because everyone can get it. Maybe this was not true in vanilla and BC but in wotlk, I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to get that trinket/weapon. On my server, PuGs killed Kel Thuzad, that Ulduar jaw boss and the Lich King.
WoW is a MMO, It's absolutely normal that players who put more effort in that game are rewarded.
If you want a game where every players are equal, play a FPS.

PvE is not what it used to be. Top guilds, went they got current content on farm status, can clear every interesting raids in 2-3 week days.
And the argument about if you focus only on PvP, you should have gear equal to PvE is flawed by the fact that wow is a PvE game and always will be.
In Woltk, PvE got:
- A butt load of new dungeons and heroics
- 6 new raids and a remake including 2 really long with plenty of interesting fights.
PvP got:
- 2 new arenas ( badly designed )
- 2 new battlegrounds ( both involving boring vehicles combat )
- 1 "World PvP" BG that involves more vehicles combat and had balance issues during the whole extension.
Blizzard want players to do PvE, that's why the best gear is there.

But it isn't just a matter of effort, is it? To get high-end
PvP
gear, which will definitely influence an arena match, you need to have a lot of time on your hands.
Put into perspective for you.
PvP gear is best, nine times out of ten, for PvP. And it's not exactly easy to grind out all that honor or arena rating. Takes just about as much time as it does to get high-end PvE gear.
Hell, even less -- it's easy to get carried in a PvE raid, but whether you are good or bad at PvP, you're still going to take a long time to get gear. It's one of the reasons I only PvP with one character. I couldn't imagine doing all that honor farming again.
Sure, you can walk into arenas with PvE gear. But your survivability is out the window. Just like if you wore full PvP gear into a PvE raid. Your DPS won't be as high as it could be in similar level PvE gear because Resilience isn't a DPS boost.

When PvP and PvE gear are on the same tier, PvP gear is better... the problem is when PvE gear gets higher tier rewards, like hard mode loot and legendaries... that sort of stuff needs to be scaled back somehow for PvP. I don't care what people say about how much effort it takes to earn them, you just shouldn't be able to get better weapons than the best PvP stuff period.

It's all WoW. There's no big black line that separates PvP from PvE. You can do both in whatever gear you want.
And if those PvP players are serious, then they will do the PvE content to get the best gear. And they will have to work just as hard as any other PvE player to get it. It's not like you can just walk into a raid and acquire Shadowmourne. So if a PvP player decides to get it, and does -- they deserve to be able to use it.
It's not like you see PvE-geared players running around with Shadowmourne in Arenas -- if they did, they'd get just as rocked as a player running around with a Titansteel Destroyer. It's not like if they have the best weapon in the game, they don't need to work their asses off for the PvP gear to go with it.

First of all, let me say that I think resillience ruined WoW PvP...
When I find a character wearing PvE gear I make it an effort to go for that person first. I easily do 2-3x more damage against them than against Wrathful.
seriously ?
You think the period of PoM-Pyro mages, 2h Enh shaman and Ambush rogues were a better period for PvP ?

Is this even a question? I mean, really?

I think people posting are missing why PvE gear is OP in PvP.
They are not full PvE gear... I repeat not FULL PvE gear.
The best set up is typically mostly wrathful, and specific pieces of PvE gear. These pieces are used because of either haste, ArP, gem slots, hit, or higher item level weapons. This gives them resilience high enough to survive and out damage their full PvP counter-parts. Wrath has put this to the extreme, nearly every class uses PvE gear to be superior. Grim toll wars, full PvE prot, ArP hunters, ArP wars, haste mages, 2piece T7 mages, KT weapons, LK weapons, solace of the fallen healers, corroded skeleton key rogues, brymtroll bladestorm, etc, etc. Clearly PvE gear has been a huge part of Wrath PvP and to say otherwise would just be foolish.
