I have to add this in, and I'm sorry if it insults the Quebec'ers but.....France makes fun of French Canadian french speech; calling it low class, and the rest. And it's true, just like how the 'English' spoken in American and Canada is nothing like the English spoken in Britain, the same thing is true for the Quebec french and the actual french speak of France.
Apparently, a "Southern" accent is actually very close to the accent of the English during Shakespeare's time.

And again, I've never had a problem with you're love of your country, that's fine for everyone.
I know that you generally don't do anything of the sort like you said, but I literally cannot tell you how enraging it is to have somebody throw around insults/bordering on propaganda against your country, most of the time without provocation, and then turn around and say how cool their country is.So then what about those who throw around the same insults and propaganda aimed at specific people, countries, religions and all the rest? Mention the word Muslim and what's the first response you see 9 times out of 10? Terrorist.
I don't see how saying the fact that I love my own country is a hypocrisy; I am a Canadian, and I'm proud of it. Just like your an American and your proud of it. I have no problem with that at all.
And any time I throw out 'propaganda/insults' about the American government is in response to something that is already said in a thread. Someone mentions the war in Iraq; I support the troops, but not what they were fighting for. Someone mentions the War on Terror; I'm sorry, but when laws are pushed through that go against the Constitution and the Rights of the Americans(Patriot Act), I can't help but laugh in sadness. When a literal free right to torture is created in a 'neutral' zone, I'm disgusted; and I would be disgusted if it was being done by Canadians, Britain's, the French, South Africans, Japanese or whatever; some things are just not right.
And yes, it does seem like most of that is aimed at the States, but what can you do when a lot of news and information comes out of your system. So, while I'm sorry it upsets you, I don't regret what I say; free speech is a right to everyone out there, be it in person or on the web.
Again, personally to you Funden, I'm sorry....but I just don't like your government and what it does.

correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldn't that make it necessary to have a passport to move from Newfoundland and Nova Scotia to the rest of Canada by road? I realize Alaska has similar issues with the US, but creating that sort of situation isn't really ideal.
plus, is Quebec helped in any way by this? Is it hurt in any way by staying?
Also, by the way, Quebec wouldn't be part of NAFTA, which would make trade rather expensive, and most likely Canada and Quebec would lose their positions of influence in the U.N., which would decrease your say in international matters.
however, you guys do speak exclusively french, instead of being mostly bilingual, and you have (apparently) been voting close to even for years about the issue, plus, you would cut a large part of Canada's debt away by leaving.
basically, I am more in favor of Quebec staying, but it leaving wouldn't really be the worst. Plus, I'm from the US, so I wouldn't really be affected much.
The Quebec independence will never pushed by economics concerns and never will. From this point of view only, Quebec would probably lose more than win.
It's for political, cultural and social reasons that some of us want to split.

The accent, not the words.

There was a battle of Quebec... but it was led by freaking Benedict Arnold, so it's no wonder the Americans got owned =P
Sorry, but I have to interject here, even if this is drastically off topic. Benedict Arnold was by far the best American general of the American Revolution. He won more battles than any other general, even in circumstances of extreme disadvantage against the British. The only reason we lost the Battle of Quebec is because Arnold was denied the reinforcements he needed to win the battle- likely because of his track record of being able to overcome the odds.
Yes, he did turn traitor later in the war, but only because other people were given credit for his victories. Did that make him right in doing so? No, not necessarily. But, if you had been the leading factor in victory in the war, wouldn't you be pretty pissed off if you hadn't gotten the credit you rightfully deserved?
I can understand patriotism, but you have to give credit where it's due.

No no, if you paid attention to the battle, Benedict Anrold stayed to siege the city, during the dead of winter, with most of his men deserting because their terms were up.
He royally screwed it over. The battle went horribly, with more Americans killed than British, and almost 400 captured (and one general was killed and Arnold injured).
This has nothing to do with patriotism (well, kinda. But he did screw the battle over).

A siege can only be effective with the troop strength to back it up. Arnold knew this, and still his orders were to take the city. Siege was his only option. Still, he was denied the reinforcements he needed. Not all sieges are unsuccessful, you know.
EDIT: Also, it was Montgomery's plan of attack that got himself and many of the men they had killed, not Arnold's. And even if it were, you cannot claim full incompetence for a single loss. Saying "no wonder we lost" does just that, relegates the man to being known by only the loss rather than the multitude of victories he achieved.

The Republic of Ireland would probably be a better example.
Yeah, because since 1922, things have been so peaceful in Ireland. Oh, wait.

Because the French Canadians are %^&*!@s....sorry, but it's true.
Why?
I thought you hated bias. Yet I see it here, unless you have a really good reason.
How could you hate bias?
I'm not sure I understand the question. Please rephrase.

You coould hate change or learning, even if it is stupid to do so. It is physically possible to hate bias, such as how I hate hypocrisy. The same principle applies.
