Credit after reading about it on MMOC like 1 million other people, wut?
You'd be surprised about how many people don't read those updates, let alone comment on them.

Hmmm, look like some surv players still dont know stats priority and rotation...
Ok I will say what I know atm, agi is the strongest stats for surv by far. Its so strong that 1 agi is nearly like having 2 hit rating in stats weight. Second stat is hit rating then haste > crit >> mastery.
Mastery for surv is the worse stat to get. Dont runeforge for it seriously it's a waste.
If you want to know why just compare it to feral kitty mastery that is strong.
Feral kitty bleeds are 50+% of his dps, mastery give 25% boost and 3% more per point.
Surv hunter elemental dmg dont go above 55% of total dps, mastery give 8% boost and 1% per point....
Mastery for surv hunters is so weak that crit rating is even 2 times better atm since all our skills can crit.
Im not reforging on my hunt but if you can I think you should go hit then haste.
Ok now for rotation,
1) Rapid Fire
2) Serpent Sting
3) Black Arrow
4) Kill Shot when boss is under 20%
5) Explosive Shot
6) Arcane Shot when you have excess focus
7) Steady Shot when you need more focus
I would add that you should use kill command when LoL proc if your focus is nearly max
For aoe situation I think that the time you send your frost trap you could send 2 multi and start casting a steady shot, so dont do it if you cant start it like 3-4s before fight because you also have to misdirect to tank.
Im usually top with 30 to 45% of damage done overall in heroics dungeons. I have only 248-9 average ilvl and doing 6600-7k average on H dummy and 8000 peaks.
Usually ending heroics with 6k to 8k average dps.
Cant wait lvl 81 with our new elemental steady shot "cobra shot" maybe stats weight will change too.

I remember seeing ret pallies saying they runeforged to mastery and they gained like 1-2k dps, lucky procs dont count in 3min fight... Atm surv elemental damage is like 55% dmg done or a bit less on overall dps, ES is 35% dmg with 0 mastery.
You know, I made some test myself just 2 min ago on target dummy, and yeah I saw ES at 50% of my overall damages for the first 20s because of crits and LoL procs but ES lost % of damages and went to 35% in the next 5min.
Once we hit 81 around 75% of our damages will be elemental and then I can trust mastery will be a better stat than it used to be by around 50%, blizzard nerfed mastery for lvl 85 balance not because it was OP at 80.
Right now I have +19% elemental damage, plus a pocket wind serpent and I pull amazing dps. Mastery is definitely better than crit and haste
Well, I would love to know your average ilvl and your amazing dps.
All our skills can crit for double damages so crit rating is strong.
20 mastery rating gives you 0.44 mastery, elemental dmg is around 55% of dps so 20 mastery rating is around 0.25% dps increase
20 crit rating gives you 0.44 crit %, all our skills can crit for double damage and I dont think we have any skill crit capped so 20 crit rating is a 0.44% dps increase.
Haste make focus less a problem so we can have enough focus to use ES at every CD and make us able to throw even some arcane shots.
So haste affect all our skills and make us able to even do better than our normal rotation.
That's why I think Haste is one of our best stats just after agi.
So Agi>>hit>haste>crit>>mastery
So maybe you doing great dps but you could do better.

I guess shadow damage could be considered elemental, but I can't see that in arcane damage.
If it's true that the game will change drastically for us after 81, and these theorycrafting showed here are for level 80 chars, aren't we going a little bit over the ceiling with that?
Or should we do a "all levels range" theorycrafing? This should be nice IMO.

Just for record: you both are giving great reasons to use either crit or mastery. But, are they better than agi and haste? If the answer is yes, so I'll use mastery AND crit over haste and agi.
Or the better is to equalize all four hunter stats for an above average DPS rate?
Can you guys understand where I'm going here?

OK, let me get this straight.
Black Arrow
is Shadow damage;
Arcane Shot
is, well, arcane damage. You mean to tell me that
Essence of the Viper
(SV's Mastery bonus) will actually affect these abilities? Wouldn't it be more accurate to reword the tooltip on Essence of the Viper to say 'all
magical
damage'?
So, either the tooltip on Essence of the Viper needs to be revised, or we need to revise our theorycrafting.
I actually tested how SV's mastery works (taking off proc trinkets and items) with 0 mastery and with all of my reforged mastery gear and it does in fact work with both BA and AS. My reasoning behind mastery being so good for SV is that its guaranteed damage. You can't say 20 crit rating is a 0.44% dps increase because its luck to a great extent. I still push 60% (damn blizz for taking out master tactician) crit in raids which sure isn't capped but with it so high I would much rather 0.25% dps as opposed to a chance to get double damage which I already have a high chance of.
Plus Mastery is only going to get better when we get Cobra Shot which kinda solves focus problems since we won't have to worry about refreshing SS anymore. Also remember that the haste soft cap is easy as cake to hit since we only need 15% ideally (though that -8% agi hurt a lot). That's only for steady shots though since I'm pretty sure hunting party only increases attack speed and not haste itself.
Clearly at 85 Mastery was OP when first introduced which is why it saw a nerf. Haste may possibly be better but its still tough to say. From my experience Mastery has always done me better than crit. Haste isn't a problem because all of my pieces are either haste/crit or hit/crit so I always reforge the crit off.
Real raid example of mastery doing me well is one night on LDW 10 man the other hunter whispered me telling me about how much SV sucks now and how he was gonna rape me on the charts in MM. At the end of the fight (including add switching) my 5.8k gs hunter has pulled 13.5k dps and his 5.8k gs hunter pulled 11k. Yeah he obviously didn't know what he was doing since MM outpaces my SV spec, I just like SV better. I was at 19% elemental damage and only had around 35% physical dmg. Meaning ~8.76k was elemental and at base mastery that would've been dropped to ~7.8k so about a 1k dps loss.
I will admit it there was probably some element of luck involved since my crit % for the fight was 62% or something but ES and SS had ~75% crit, BA was around 65%, and AS was around 70%.
tl;dr version:
Mastery has treated me well in real raid situations.
Well, lets take an example, is 0.44 chance to miss good?, because you must have bad luck to miss, the chance is sooooo lowww. How hit is supposed to be a better stat than another with so low chance to miss?
Maybe you wont feel the 0.44% crit on a fight but do you think you will feel your +0.44% on elemental damages (that is still 55% of dmg done) so 0.24% dmg increase?
Ok 0.44% crit is not a 0.44% damage increase, it must be around 0.36% or a mini mini bit less because more you got crit and less it will increase your dps.
That's still better than 0.22% dmg increase.
Im still not agree, just because you doing 13k dps with your mastery reforged 5800gs sv hunter dont mean mastery is better at any level.
I think too that at a certain level of crit chance, mastery becomes better or is very close but I am not a this point atm.
Im 100% sure haste is better than crit and mastery btw. And better are your gears, stronger it becomes.
If you are a 6k+ gs hunter mastery rating is prob as good or better than crit.
So... agi>>hit>haste>crit>mastery
If you got 70%+ crit chance raid buffed crit rating should be weaker than mastery rating.
Agree?
