but let me say this: People pay $15 a month to be entertained by this game. If a person is bored playing a game that they subscribe to, you can't blame them for trying to make it interesting. People are allowed to do whatever the hell they want in this game that they can't do in real life, be it slaying dragons with shiny epics or annoying the hell out of people who take the game too seriously.
You can't a buy movie ticket and run around the theater screaming your head off or go to a ball game and run on the field or get on a bus and say you want to drive, without getting into trouble.
Yes you can.
Let me rephrase.."escorted off the premises/bus." If you wish to prove me wrong..by all means, video tape yourself running on to a ball field or screaming endlessly in a movie theater and not have anyone give a hoot and post it on youtube. Drop off the link here. I'll retract everything I said and give you your dues.

It is also socially acceptable to talk on a cellphone while driving now, but there are laws against that happening all across the US because of the dangerous distraction it provides when operating a one ton piece of machinery going 35+ miles an hour. Just because something is becoming the norm of behavior does not mean it should be tolerated due to the danger/disruption of other lives.
You must simply begin to "make laws" about the unwanted behavior and then enforce them. If you see the person that is starting those trade chat games beginning, report spam and then put in a ticket with the names of all the people who have joined in. Tell Blizz how much this disturbed you and get your friends and guildies to do the same. With enough complaints, Blizz will be forced to punish the responsible parties with a temporary ban. Rack up one too many of those and you get the perma-ban.
Get it started by word of "mouth" amongst your friends and watch it ripple outwards. It can work, it just takes time. We all wish that there was a way to be rid of the jackasses of the world with the press of a button, but in WoW you almost can.

A "hoot" and getting in trouble are two very different things.
Secondly I don't have a camera - it got stolen. If you want to make a donation so I can buy a new one I can hook you up with an email.
A "hoot", in this case, would be at minimum being thrown out of the theater and banned without a refund, or a warning by the police for public disturbance - or possibly an arrest for said infraction for repeat offenders.
People pay $15 a month to be entertained by this game. If a person is bored playing a game that they subscribe to, you can't blame them for trying to make it interesting.
Yes I can, because it's against Blizzard's own ToU agreement (regardless of how stringently Blizzard enforces it).
I can also consider them idiots for paying $15 a month for something they could do for free on a web forum or in an F2P MMO.
Have an automated system to deal with spammers. If 20 players report the same person (right click report spam) within a 10 minute period, then the reported person suffers a 3 hour chat ban across all channels (including guild, party, and /say). This ban is applied to the account, not just the character. Reports are also exclusive to an account to prevent people from toon hopping in order to ban people faster. In addition, only people with access to the offender's channel would be eligible to report. This prevents a guild member from having numerous friends report a person from across the world.
The problem with this solution is that, for decently-sized guilds, there will likely be a number of people with access to a given channel simply by being in a capital city. I wouldn't support this, if for no other reason than it would quickly be turned into a troll tool itself. The
only
way this might work without abuse is if offensive usage of the system resulted in an permanent ban for all those involved in the inaccurate reporting - and I just don't see them doing that.
I've suggested a solution to clean up trade chat before: Don't make it an open chat channel. When the user wants to use trade chat, they shift-click the item/recipe they want to sell, enter a numeric amount for the item, and click a button, resulting in a 'post' to the chat channel with a fixed format of "Looking to sell for X amount."
Of course, this would only restore trade chat to its intended function, and the trolls would move elsewhere.
Get it started by word of "mouth" amongst your friends and watch it ripple outwards. It can work, it just takes time. We all wish that there was a way to be rid of the jackasses of the world with the press of a button, but in WoW you almost can.
To be honest, this is the only solution that I might see working, and only if Blizzard upheld their end of the bargain.

Oh, you don't need a donation...just shoplift one...I'm sure no one would give a "hoot" :P
By the way...running onto a ball field where I live gets you a day in the city jail and a permanent ban from the stadium...but maybe you consider that's just a small price to pay to have some fun, instead of getting into trouble. To each his own.
The trolls seem to feel the same way when getting temporarily banned. They almost dared you to try and get them banned again. The mindset of such people makes me pity the unhappiness in their lives.
In the mean time I'll be following the news channel tickers, hoping to read of your escapades.
"Unknown person wearing WoW t-shirt with the words 'yes you can' print on it takes city bus for a joy ride and eludes local authorities. News at 11" go get them tiger :P

well hopefully my team will continue the beat down on the cowboys this week. :)
Maybe our teams will cross path in the playoffs. Always a little jealous of them cheeseheads :P
The other team here had a fan issue as well some time back. It seems harassing female patrons during half time.

This is what happens when no one says stop. This is what happens when management turns a blind eye. Poor behavior begins to pick up momentum. Eventually they had to confront the issue.
The poor behavior has picked up momentum in WoW as well. Someone needs to try and stop the steam roll.

Simple solution: Ignore the idiots like you ignore a small child begging for attention by being a sh*thead and they'll stop being a sh*thead.
It's more reasonable to ask 1 person to change than to ask 500 people to ignore him.

Ok... that statement has always gotten under my skin no matter in what context or capacity it is used.
NOOOOO..IT DOESN'T.
Paying money does not absolve you from still observing social courtesies. You can't a buy movie ticket and run around the theater screaming your head off or go to a ball game and run on the field or get on a bus and say you want to drive, without getting into trouble.
Paying allows you access and that is all.
Blizz has a code of conduct. I abide by it. They sure go after gold sellers and buyers...why then not put in the same effort to enforce everything else as well.
Your point of view seem to leave out that it can be expanded as well. So then if you get Ninja'd on a drop or pug leader decides he wants to give your gear to someone else even if you won the roll, is ok because they paid their 15 bucks.! Raiding a guild bank...taking mats for crafting and logging off, also get a pass because the "I paid my money I do as I please" philosophy is applied.
Do you seriously support that position? For the sake of the game and all of us who try to maintain some semblance of normalcy...I sincerely hope not.
I even said right under the part you quoted, WoW =/= RL. Online video games have never followed the same code of conduct as real life, and probably never will.
You also have to remember that your analogies were a little to exaggerated and crossed the line into offenses that warrant consequences. I would compare trolling in chat to a couple making out in a movie theatre -- in both situations, you can usually ignore it, but if enough people complain someone will talk to them and tell them to stop. I would compare ninja'ing loot to stealing someone's candy bar in a movie theatre. It's just one item, and in both situations you don't get reprimanded for it very harshly, if at all.
Complaining about ganking is something completely different, though. I'd liken that to someone jumping into a boxing ring and complaining about people hitting you because you're not as strong as them. You're the one who jumped into the ring, so you can't really complain.
TL:DR - Even if you do compare real life to WoW (without exaggerating), it's not as different as people would like to believe on these forums. There are "trolls" in real life too, I'd suggest you get used to it.

We need a "vote to kick" option in trade chat. Put it on the same drop-down as the Ignore and Report Spam selection. If more than, say, 15 or 20 people vote to kick in a 5 minute time frame, you are removed from the channel for 1 hour.

I agree to a small degree, but in real life, at least (some of us) have several options to deal with "trolls". You can deal with them in a mild mannered way by removing yourself from the situation (granted, you have this option in WoW as well), or you have the option to deal with them in a not-so-mild way. I can promise you, there are very few people in real life that would even think of acting or saying things like they do in this game to me, and many others, in real life. If you have a reasonable expectation of pain and injury, you are much less likely to be a smartass to someone.

Fair enough. I've pretty much made my point of view known, no reason for me to beat the subject to death.
But if you want to look at it from a different perspective then lets try this.
Blizz counters gold selling and buying as acts that are detrimental to the economy of the game.
So then, wouldn't it be safe to consider that having potential suppliers/customers turning off trade chat
or not being able to have their economic trade chat post read because trolls are spamming it away before it is even legible a detriment to the economics of the game, as well. Since Blizz is vigorous with going after the gold seller/buyer, perhaps they should be as vigorous with players interfering with tradechat economics too.

I'd rather look at it from my perspective, considering how inherently flawed that one is. People use trade chat because they want to sell something fast. If that doesn't work, they just go to the AH. If you think they should crack down on trade chat trolls for interfering with trade chat selling and buying, they could just as easily punish anyone who uses trade chat for anything other than buying/selling, such as finding groups, guild recruiting, or just asking questions or looking for advice.
TL:DR - Trade chat is hardly used for transactions any more anyways, so comparing trolls to gold sellers is not a very good perspective.
PS: You definitely have the most conceited sig I've ever seen
You retort doesn't make sense.
Tradechat is use for other game functions besides trading?...reeaaallllyyy...thank you for enlightening me to a fact I knew 3 years ago. Your just a fountain of useless information aren't you?
I was hoping to finish with this thread but perhaps I left too much out since I didn't want to repeat what I had already said.
I was just trying to make an alternate point by remove the emotion factor since we all have a different view of what tantamounts to poor behavior. Clean up tradechat for the sake of game function if not to remove the annoyance trolls cause. Like I've posted already if you had read it..I'll leave it up to blizzard to moderate what is and isn't permissible in trade chat.
As for sigs...grats on winning your special Olympic gold medal. You definitely earned it.
