That's what anonymity has to offer.
I don't remember what's it's called, maybe psychopath. If you treat everyone as NPC's than you can do whatever to them.
And NPC's that react to getting insulted (actual people), are better than NPCs that don't care (actual NPCs). So I can see how for a psychopath it can be fun to taunt NPC's they get a reaction from.
General anonymity teaches people to disassociate themselves from others. People make fun of facebook gamers, but I think they are deteriorating at much lesser pace than WoW and other anonymous gamers.
Maybe if the game offers a way to abuse actual NPCs, and if at the same time abusing your fellow human is punished, than community will improve. Right now you simply cannot abuse NPCs, and so people who need to abuse someone ... will have to turn to NPCs that have feelings.

I just wish you would have stayed to watch him die. That's the most fun part. I let people die all the time when I politely ask them to kill the skinnables and they don't bother.
Druid/Shammy! Why didn't you heal me?
IDK, why didn't you loot like I asked?

As a tank, I don't loot. My job isn't to level your tradeskill, it's to make sure mobs don't kill you. If you let me die because I didn't loot, I'd vote kick you.

Tanks are exempt because if they die, then I probably die too.

A War on Trade Spam is like a War on Drugs, it just isn't going to work.
This.
The best answer you can give a trade troll is no answer at all.
That being said, I refuse to turn off trade chat, because new players still
do
ask questions here, and I watch for those questions and respond to them in private.

I find myself agreeing with 80% of everything here, especially with the rudeness and cruelness. Having said that, I do maintain that a little bit of humor, even stupid humor, can be okay in Trade chat. Same goes with things like Barrens chat...it has become a part of WoW culture for people to be silly in General chat there. I've actually had some really good conversations in Trade chat, and I've gotten some good guffaws as well.

I'm going to take a completely different angle.
When a game gets boring and the people who play the game have nothing else to do, what do they do? Make it interesting. I quit a few months ago because I was bored, and the last weeks of playing entailed me resorting to trolling and ganking because when I was waiting to do one of the most mediocre endgame raids ever conceived, or faceroll through another mindless heroic, I literally had nothing else to do.
Just putting that out there.

Where are the people willing to help new players?
I've found a few helpful people on my server, maybe because it was a noob server when I joined it. I've also seen pug players rage and quit after the first few mobs. The elitism makes them feel good about themselves I guess. Their ability to push buttons in a more efficient manner is a badge of honor to be displayed at all times. You can see it all over the forum sites as well.

I play on Laughing Skull, Alliance side.
LEEROY's server.
IT. NEVER. ENDS. The only reason I keep trade open is to respond to noobies asking questions, and I respond in private. Nothing turns a new player off a new game faster than being trolled and harassed right from the get-go for asking simple questions.
Also, I should add that it is my experience that roughly 80-85% of people who play this game are complete asshats, immature ^&*!s who have nothing better to do than to harass others.
Complete anonymity (because of the Internet) + decently wide audience + no chance of retribution = brings out the the most immature, foolish, most cruel parts in people.
Honestly, this shyt has to end, although I fear that Deathwing will attract even more internet scum. If this keeps up we'll be competing with 4chan soon.

I've mentioned in many past posts, that blizz should employ a real time server moderator. Some one who can officially step in and put an end to any nonsense. This is their product, it's up to them to maintain and enforce their standards of conduct.
This wouldn't have to be someone who is on constantly..it could be a set up in the same fashion as a police speed trap zone. You know they are there at least once a day...you just don't know when, so people tend to observe the speed law all the time. The 3 strike rule should be applied as well, no reason to give these jokers anymore chances then that to reek havoc on our senses.
