Nah, it's obvious that they pulled this out of left field so that they could experiment with the idea of a neutral-good Lich King.
They don't need another "just in case we need one" boss, because they already have plenty. Azshara, Kil'jaeden, Sargeras, couple more Old Gods, the Infinite Dragonflight's leader, and so on. They don't need to botch the ending of WotLK just to put another "just in case boss" in the bin.

Heh it's Blizzard.....they don't 'need' to, doesn't mean they didn't though....

I think it'd be neat to see a faction you can gain reputation with of Scourge. A neutral Lich King lending his armies against elementals or w/e sounds pretty cool to me.

Heh, which goes against the final thought of ICC: Forget me, and let all think the Lich King is gone....

He'll be back. We can't have a neat ending like that, now can we?

suspect
that they did.
I have reason to believe that they didn't.

/shrug It's really the only reason they'd keep something like that around; if they wanted a 'redemption' to the king, they could have had Bolvar order all of the Scourge into a volcano or to walk into the Pillars of the Basin and be destroyed...instead, apparently, it's business as usual, and the upper level Scourge forces are doing what they've always done; killing and slaughtering, and being 'stopped' from wiping out the world.
We'll have to wait, but I'm not holding out for a 'good' return of the Lich King...mainly because they didn't need to keep it around in the first place.

I'm sorry, I missed that. Where did you see updated lore about the Scourge post Fall of the Lich King? They haven't said...but what do you expect? That they'll just stand around doing nothing.

They plan to update Northrend and you seriously think its going to be a Wotlk 2.0?
More then likely; probably with the leaders of the remnants Scourge stepping up and trying things; Lichs, Vyrkul, whatever Val'kyr didn't go south with Sylvanas, and the rest.

Most independent upper level Scourge were killed, and the rest require mind control to function. I see most of the Scourge immobilized, yes.
