I'm just wondering what the priority of stats would be for pvp?
Resi of course, but haste after that?
For PvP, all specs, you need 410 hit, 195+ spell pen (I'm not sure what the exact cap is, I have heard rumor that with mage armor up, resistances go all the way to 240), Then stack as much int, haste, and resilience as you can. There aren't really fixed values for these, as it's a matter of personal preference, I personally don’t gem for resilience, and instead go with haste+int for all red and yellow sockets, with int+hit (to keep me at the cap) in blue sockets, reforging all extra hit past 410 to haste, as well any crit or mastery to haste if possible.

with 4.0.1 blizzard changed the requirement for all metas that have the "+3% critical damage" portion to require "more blues than reds".
very soon after they said that they thought this was too restrictive (which it is) and said they would revert the change but they're only just getting round to it on the 4.0.6 PTR.
they're becoming "requires three red gems" i think which will be nicely achievable which is great because they are VERY strong metas.
edit to add a test anchor relating to a later post

Will it be worth using 4 set Tier 11 after the 4.0.6 patch? The proc is still fel flame so it hardly seems worth it, but a DPS increase is a DPS increase.

Guessing since Felflame crits for roughly the same damage as a normal shadow bolt hit (at least for Demonology), a 300% Felflame would at least overweigh a normal filler. (read: guessing) I'll sure try it out. Will be nice with the absence of Improved Soulfire in the future. :)

i'm sure 300% will make it a proc worth reacting to, though how much actual DPS it will add over the course of a 5+ minute fight will remain to be seen(/simmed).

Wondering what to use as AoE rotation/spell for my Affliction Warlock, and maybe for any Warlock. I´ve been browsing some forums to look for suggestions and answers, but most posts go way back to Beta/pre-release.
Option 1a
: Soulburn + Seed of Corruption for the massive DoT fest and keep casting Seeds
Option 1b
: Soulburn + Seed of Corruption, then Rain of Fire,
Option 1c
: Soulburn + Seed of Corruption, then Hellfire like a maniac inbetween the mobs.
Option 1d
: Seed of Corruption into infinity or until all targets appear to be dead (most likely by you of course).
Option 2
: DoT every single target accordingly and just renew DoT´s as you tab-target along?
Option 3
: Rain of Fire
Option 4
: Hellfire
The OP talentbuild doesn´t have Soulburn: Seed of Corruption, which was lovely to have in WotLK, but I suppose with Cata it´s not viable anymore. WotLK was all about zerging and showing off big numbers, but with Cata comes a lot more responsibility and taking care you only hit what you are supposed to hit. Something I absolutely praise Blizzard for, but that aside.
Any suggestions?

take a point out of nightfall to get SB:SoC. you're trading a minor amount of single target damage for a reasonable amount of AoE damage. Since there's a couple of boss fights that require AoE in cataclysm it's not crazy to make that choice.
if CC is involved and you can't indiscriminately AoE then DoT what you can and nuke the kill order in between.
make good use of soul swap.
Fire AoEs don't deserve a mention.

killo, in case it's something that would interest you, wowhead's added \ tags to the forums for use by regular users which are ideal for guides like yours.
basically, instead of having to organise everything by post and linking to the individual posts in the index you can put
\ anywhere in your thread and link to it anywhere else using

I think a blurb on how buffs/debuffs work (specifically procs) would be beneficial.
This is also a selfish suggestions because I think I have either the wrong mechanics in mind or an outdated one: Is it still the case that buffs are applied on cast and debuffs on damage? As an example: Cast UA, trinket or weapon enchant procs - does UA have to be reapplied to get the benefit of the proc, or does its next tick get the benefit?

it still has to be reapplied in that example.
this has been a very common point of confusion because such a big thing was made of blizzard "fixing" refresh mechanics. they prevented any stats/buffs from "rolling" but these things aren't checked every tick, just on the DoT's application.
however, what might seem like a bad thing also has an upside in that the stronger DoT applied with the buff will keep ticking with the buff until the DoT is reapplied/refreshed after the buff drops.
essentially there's been no major change in buff mechanics just a subtle change in DoT refresh mechanics since wrath.

That's kind of what I thought. I mentioned it last night during the raid and had several people tell me I had it wrong. With the confusion that exists, a section on it could be useful. And just for clarity's sake, the "fix" was simply making refreshing act more like an actual reapplication, correct?
For the time being, I'm putting a sticky note on my desk to remind myself I was more or less correct :P

yeah the fix was to make any early recast work as a refresh (no tick reset) and to make every refresh recheck stats from the character sheet instead of rolling the previous ones.

that's right.
debuffs are calculated on damage done.
the exception to this (logically, though it's not an actual exception) is that the damage of nukes is calculated when the cast is complete rather than when the damage is actually done to the target. this is important when doing things like casting a shadow bolt then hitting CoE before it lands.
this makes sense to do but the CoE doesn't actually effect the SB in that case.
