Regardless of the intricacies of how it functions, the point is WoW is profitable. Instead of supporting the profitable side of their business Activision throws that profit at failed ventures. Why is that supposed to make me happy?
nobody said it should make you happy, but unless you have a way to control activision? you can write a letter or stop giving them money.
that's it.
I can also come on here and try to convince people that Activision is screwing around with their money, which you've all clearly proven to be true, and maybe people will demand action from Activision.
To which Activision will reply, "Pfffffft."
You have one method of voting in this situation: Stop paying them if you dislike their service. You have no recourse to demand anything of them other than to stop giving them your money.

you get 300 people to whine and complain at activision. out of MILLIONS of subscribers.
They're not gonna give a damn.
Social change starts somewhere.
lol
This has nothing to do with society. You're not fighting for people's rights here. You aren't arguing for the right for gays to get married, or for better treatment of Hispanics.
If you're seriously attempting to move against the concept of 'free market economy', then this is really not the right forum for it.

No, it's simple math.
If there are 1,000,000 subscribers at 15$ A month. That's 15 mil / mo of moneys.
Lets say, it's 33.3% cost to upkeep the product, that's 5 million / month. leaving 10 million of profit.
So, as they add new members, lets say it costs them 45% of the new subscribers monthly to bring them into the game. That's still 55% profit for each new subscription. Less than the 66% before, but still profit.
For kicks, lets's just assume that no new subscribers ever come to the game again, ever. The costs of operating WoW will still increase. Why? Because the individual costs which comprise expenses increase every year; utility bills increase, insurance increases, salaries and wages increase, prices for computers and servers increase.
But how can that be, you say? Because prices generally increase every year. Look at your own living expenses and compare them to those of 5 years ago.
Now, the cost of a subscription has not gone up. It is still $15 per month. $15 today buys you less than $15 did 6 years ago.
If revenue is held constant, the decrease in spending power of that revenue combined with ever increasing expenses leads to a constantly eroding net income. The only way to counter that is to increase subscribers (and thus revenues) beyond the increases in expenses. That or decrease expenses which means reducing staff or shutting down servers to reduce the costs of purchasing components and the costs of operating them.

You spend 15$ a month on the game. You play for 30 hours a month. (Not all that month.) That's 50c/hour to play. I sure as hell ain't gonna play much else for that little money.
Like this person said.
Think about it...$15 is average cost of a pizza pie, that you consume in one sitting with family/friends. Small cup of coffee a day from DD will run you $45 a month. A newspaper at the stand, cell phone..etc...etc.
30 hours a month is below average..most people can play twice that much. So truthfully, .50 cents a day is still a bargain anyway you look at it.

No, we are not arguing the same point.
You want Activision to either reduce their revenues or increase their expenses. I am arguing that they won't and why. You seem to be arguing that they shouldn't seek profit maximization.
We live in a free market economy. The function of business is to realize a profit. It is in everyone's best interest that this is so. If your employer didn't realize a profit you would soon find yourself out of work.
One thing which you have not seemed to consider is the fact that not all income is returned to investors, in fact very little of it ever is. Some is paid out, on occasion, in the form of dividends, but most of it is reinvested in the company. Your arguments are more full of holes than Swiss cheese.
I have tried, patiently, to school you in a few basic facts. Time and time again you resort to emotionally. When you argue from an emotional standpoint you have lost before you have even begun.
I too am done here.

Great product, tons of hours of entertainment, met some great friends, I stay at home drinking and playing other than spending lots of money at the bar, and keeps me from cheating on my out of town girlfriend or getting into any other trouble I can get into. I think I am getting a good deal at $15 per month.

I liked Green Day Rock Band, I score high 90s on expert vocals.
As for the topic, this is the type of discussion people had about EQ right before it caved in over Sony's head when WoW came out, and personally I welcome the next challenger MMO.
