yes this was a bit of a rant, yes this isnt productive or furthering the argument and a bit of a flame but hey tell me none of you thought the same rossi is a !@#$ tank and is just bitching about it?
dont apologize dude. you are 100% correct in everything you said. and i agree, i think rossi is probably a #$%^ty tank. Tanking as a prot warrior is one of the most difficult class combinations in the game, right up there with raid healing. Theres a lot of warriors, and most of them suck. Why? Cause it isnt easy mode like most classes.

I agree with you, tomasvalheru. We shouldn't shun away our fellow tanks, but embrace them & support them. This kind of condemnation against other classes is quite selfish & uncalled for. With the shortage of tanks since The Burning Crusade came out, it's a much needed change & really does add another layer of experience to the game, for everyone. We as players are no longer stuck in the mold of priest/warrior/mage & whoever -- we can pick any of our friends, regardless of their class, and in many cases make it work. I can't think of a more flexible change than introducing alternatives to the norm.
As a healer or tank, if you're not 100% focused and alert, your group will notice (because they'll be dead). That's the kind of pressure that
makes you want to know not only your class, but every class, every instance, every pull, every game mechanic
that could come into play.
This is the true path to becoming a great tank: not worrying about oneself, but putting the group/raid first & foremost, above one's own ambitions. If I had to respec so the raid could progress, I would do so in a heartbeat.
I am glad Blizzard is working with more than just 9 classes, but with individual possibilities that present the option for a single player to exhibit their usefulness. What good is teamwork if it diminishes the individual?
I hope my thoughts were expressed clearly, not sure if I pulled it off^_^

By being "back on top," I don't mean above druids and pallies, I mean alongside them. I hope I've cleared that up now.
This is the kind of harmony we should be enjoying. Instead, some people are arguing that we are in some way inferior, just because one person has a personal problem with other classes performing the same "role" doesn't mean it is true.
No
class
can ever replace the warrior, but there should be alternatives to share the same
role
-- for all the reasons plob218 pointed out. Fortunately, for those of us who adhere to this belief, our issue is already solved with the advent of druid & paladin tanks
alongside
us.
So, what's the deal? Lol, the only thing left is the normal tweakage which is, of course, a neverending process.

I read through the article, i hadnt at first and had just read what was quoted from it.
It seems this all started from him being asked to respec for lady vashj over a druid putting on kitty gear, or a prot pally respec'ing.
I'm sure there was more to it than just a druid putting on kitty gear, cause thats a no brainer. But asking a prot pally to respec is completely different. Ret dps just isnt anywhere close to fury dps, and the only other option they have is to heal, which is a completely different raid slot all together. They likely had too many prot wars, and that was the reason a prot war was asked to respec.
The thing is though, is that lady vashj only really needs 2 tanks. On top of that, she is a very tough boss. On par, maybe slighly easier, than Kael from TK. So every single spot in the raid matters. You cant run it with 2 or 3 extra tanks, and just have them put on dps gear and expect to beat her.
I think this is more of an overall issue with the content in question. Its like your rollin along fine with your 3-4 tanks, 6-8 healers, and 13-16 dps. And everything is difficult, yet managable. And your makin your way through it pretty stedily, and WHAM! you hit a brick wall on this boss. And all of a sudden you cant just do the same old thing you've just done on the last 5 boss's.
We ran into this exact same scenario in my guild last month when we started working on lady vashj. Our guilds MT even had to respec fury to stay in for attempts because we had a suplus of tanks that we needed for previous content progression.
Hell you need a minimum of 4 (possibly 5) tanks for FLK, and then all of a sudden you can only have a max of 2 tanks for vashj.
I think the entire article is just mis-directed frustration over a very hard progression boss.

I think I will make my second post ever here. Been reading these forums since I started my first toon about 5 months ago. Orc Warrior, prot spec form lvl10 never looked back. I wanted to tank and figured the best way to learn was to level the way everybody else said was foolish. Took me a while but I can tank :)
Anyways....
I'm the GM of a guild preparing to run heroics and then kara. We practice raids in Pre-BC content in the hopes that when we do hit kara we will have some semblance of a team and, in theory, have a few less initial wipes. As I go over the everchanging raid lineup for the guild I have to make the choices of who fills what roles.
I do not see the prot pally and the feral druid as competition in any form. To me it is more of a MT by commitee. All of us can tank anything Blizz throws at us. We all know that becuase Druid, Warrior, and Paladin tanks take great pride in what they do. We all have certain strengths and weaknesses. If during the course of the raid (and as I said we are using pre-BC content as practice) a pull will be better done with a Paladin tanking, I and the Druid step back and act as OT or MT2. Same stands for pulls where a Druid is better or a Warrior is better.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is instead of looking as tanking as a role that should be one classes over another look at is as a role that now has three viable options and if one option is better suited by one class then let that class tank that pull.
As stated above, all tanks are brothers. We all swam thru the same river of suck to get where we are and if a raid is successful, be by having three tank options or just one, then a raid is successful.
