Also, Morec, you just earnt yourself one thousand respect points. Why not use them to buy some nice, fresh, water, straight from the Ankh?
Don't give me that respect just yet; Sourcery is the only Discworld book I've ever read, and that is only one of two lines from it that I can remember fully.
Then you'll love the river water all the more >.>

I actually liked the LotR movies, even if they departed from the books sometimes (and often for no discernible reason).
I have the LotR trilogy on Blu-ray, and you can really see the attention to detail they put into them.
Also, I went to a Boy Scout lock-in last night with my brother, and, while fun, I am absolutely wiped out. I actually slept through today's MLP episode! D:

Morec, wrong book, thats harry potter, lol.
Probobly wait to see the hobbit after its all out. My understanding was they planned on making it a three part movie.
And "it was his sled" was a completely different movie from that.
I was making a joke.
Yeah but as the Hobbit is only 300 pages compared to the 1200 of the Lord of the Rings it didn't truly need three movies to tell the story; that's just Money Dear Boy on the part of Jackson.
Oh well, I'm not gonna see it and won't begrudge anyone who does. Mind, unlike LotR, I actually like the Hobbit book, so that's an even larger reason not to see the movie.
Yes, but like this they'll be able to put in just THAT more detail, as well as putting in some new and cool stuff to tie it deeper to the Lord of the Rings - which the original novelization of the book didn't have.

For a very good reason, as it was the prequel to a specific clan and not the entire world. Sorry but this just seems like yet another Peter Jackson cash grab; and after complete and utter mess he made of King Kong, of which the original is one of my all time favorite movies, I've given up on his recent stuff.
That said: Frighteners is still a kick ass movie.

I haven't seen The Hobbit, but here's the problem with it, in my opinion:
The Lord of the Rings was written as a myth for England. Greek, Roman, Norse, and Egyptian myth were all well documented and popularized, but all England has was it's dead Celtic myth, which hardly anyone knew about. So Tolkien wrote LotR as an epic mythology for England to call its own. The movies reflected this, and portrayed it as a classical adventure myth with heroes and monsters and magic objects.
However, the Hobbit was written as a sort of fairy tale. A children's story that could be enjoyed by children and adults both. It was whimsical, lighthearted, and even silly at times. However, the movies, being that they are coming out AFTER Lord of the Rings, rather than before (which makes a HUGE difference), are being forced into a sort of "LotR prequel" role, instead of the not-so-serious folktale the book was written as. As such, it is looking to be taking the tone of the LotR movies, which is a completely different tone from the book. I'm not really that huge a fan of the change.

Mmm, hadn't though about that.
I don't know, that's just what I have heard. I may be wrong, I suppose. I haven't yet had the opportunity to sit down and talk with him... :P

Agreed.
I actually thought it was pretty light-hearted overall, maybe not so much as the book, but still - it's a long shot away from being a dark tale.
Personally I thought it was good the way it was, after all it is still the LotR universe.

I do think it's a bit upsetting that they decided to pad out the single book into three movies. The Hobbit simply did not have as much content as the Lord of the Rings.
