The Downfall of WoW
Return to board index

Hi, I'm a former player of WoW that is essentially writing this to inform everyone how and why the game has become completely stupid and insignificant. So continue reading only if you want to consider my thoughts, or tell me why I'm wrong.
First off, I'd like to discuss the overall direction the game has been heading towards post-Burning Crusades. To put it all in a simple adjective, Blizzard has developed a
socialistic
approach towards raid progression, itemization of gear, distribution of gear, PvP, polarization of dungeon difficulty, and almost anything else. There is not a single reason why anyone needs to play for hours on end anymore. Everyone can have five different level 80s, all the best equipment, and player customization. They have turned it into every other video game out there and are charging the same amount of money for what you can pay to play a
thousand
different games.
Because of this, there is no need to throw your life away for it anymore. The same enjoyment can be reached by playing ~15 minutes of any other game out there.
Another fault is the decision to make each and every player basically identical. The same talent choices and class design can be seen now in everything you look at. Classes have been stripped of their special niches and were given the same abilities with different names. Predictability is the key recurring theme. Uniqueness has become a relic of the past.
I'm not here to rag on the game. It was a great game (Note how I said
was
). If all of this sounds good to you, keep on keeping on. But frankly, it made me sick and want to quit playing.

So your point is.... I don't like the game anymore, and no one else should either. Sorry, but not a Sheeple here; I'll enjoy playing the game as I do now, and be glad one less person is taking up space on the servers.

Okay, so you don't like the game. Right? Is that what you are saying? Good. Thank you. Go away now.

And not throwing your life away is a bad thing? This is the main thing Blizzard gets criticized for, Is this the crux of your argument? You are pissed at Blizz because they have made it possible for you to leave your parents basement once in a while?
I used to love throwing my life away to play. Just not anymore because it's turning into a ^&*!ty game. This isn't only my thoughts, but a general consensus amongst several real life friends, guild members, and online friends of mine.
I'm afraid your every player identical point is nonsense, I'd like to hear how you think they are identical but as an end game player with Warrior, Mage, DK, Hunter and soon a Warlock, I have a very different experience with all my characters.
Like most of you, I started to create alternates and level them to 80 for variety. But once I really started to compare each of them, I was doing the same thing with each character. Obviously, there is difference between DPS and healing but that's not my point. I remember when class X used to do really good in situation Y but really suck in situation Z. I
liked
being characterized by weak and strong suits of my class. But Blizzard has eliminated that entirely, and it doesn't make the game as fun. They are making classes identical by balancing them out so each one is just as capable in a particular circumstance. Some people might like that, but I find it extremely boring.

Thanks for trying to put words in my mouth to make me sound stupid. But clearly, I wrote "If all of this sounds good to you, keep on keeping on."
But really, I'm not every other ignorant politico-type person in America. Just because I think your opinion is stupid doesn't mean you should have the same exact opinion as me. I like diversity, but apparently you don't. Which makes you racist.

If you're throwing your life away on any game, you're doing it wrong. Believe it or not some people actually play for fun. Fun! Remember that? Read on, this is an important factor.
Aside from bugs or the very few exceptions I can think of, WoW was never 'hard', it was time-consuming in ridiculous ways. The same raid mechanics and boss challenges we see today, are pretty much all recycles of vanilla/bc raids (which is no fault of Blizzard, you can only put the same crap in a fresh wrapper so many times). The only things that made the 'hard' were that 1)relatively few people knew how things worked, and 2) relatively few people had the patience to spend hours and hours farming/grinding, whether it was for mats or experience or honor or whatever. None of the required 'hard' parts were ever actually hard, they were just irritating. Over time this has been streamlined and cut down to where people have to spend less time doing mundane, unfun crap and actually get to play the game. It's natural that along with that folks will get into epix faster and things don't actually feel all that epic. Which is fine, in my opinion (and if you disagree you're a racist!).
tldr: This thread is new and interesting.

You know what, toast? Some guy always posts here at least once a day saying something like "Oh, WoW is going downhill" or "I'm quitting WoW" or "WoW isn't the same as it used to be". All of these threads end in the same way - cool story bro. Nobody really has a reason to pay special attention to this one either. What you were trying to accomplish here aside from a venting of your feelings, I'm not sure.
