Not so much our damage going down as a TON of classes got AoE boosts which has brought their damage up considerably.

I wanted to ask you why you had
Lavawalker
rather than
Mastery
. Is the bonus to speed better than the 15 mastery?
Edited to try and fix the link. I failed though :P

The movement speed on boots comes in as a dps increase over the extra 15 mastery you'd have with the 50 mastery enchant at roughly 2.5 seconds of movement per minute of the fight. There is a TON of movement these days and anything that shortens that time is huge.
The other aspect of having movement speed is it gives you that extra edge when moving out of "bad stuff".

Guide updated for 4.2.0
Changes include:
Spec
Glyphs
Rotation - both single and multi
A few minor changes
A section about the latest patch changes with explanation about why they happened and what you need to know.
Enjoy and as always tell me if I missed anything or something can be worded better.
Might reformat the guide with the new options but don't have the time available currently.

EXCEPT! Starsurge...:
As a result of the boost to Wrath and Starfire's damage Starsurge is now only worth casting during movement or while in eclipse.
Is this still true? Or is this made with the assumption of 4t12 (even though that set bonus is not mentioned)? Because according to my tooltips, Wrath is 9k, Starsurge 12k. And logically, if the DPCT of Starsurge is superior during Eclipse, and that Eclipse improves the spells equally, then it should be stronger outside of Eclipse too.

It is indeed still true. Though without 4T12 it comes out to only 160 more dps on the profiles that are used to test it and something on the order of a 200 dps loss once 4T12 is active.

Then I'm having trouble understanding how something with the same cast time but dealing 1.25 times as much damage is worse to push, regardless of Eclipse state. The illogic of saying Z*Y magically becomes larger than X*Y, when Z>X, is also hard to comprehend.
Admittedly it's a bit harder to compare Starsurge with Starfire since the cast times are not identical; however, since the comparison to Wrath is pretty straightforward I'm focusing on that for now.
Does Starsurge benefit more from Eclipse than Wrath or Starfire?

It is a combination of saving Starsurge to be available to be used during Eclipse and the gap closing in damage causing the eclipse energy per execute compared to the damage gain over the normal casts not being worthwhile anymore.
Lunar:
If you can guarantee that you will have a SS available during a Lunar eclipse you have a large gain in DPS due to having 5 SFs and 1 SS as opposed to just 5 SFs.
100 - 20 - 20 - 20 - 20 = 20
If you cast a SS you now have 5 energy leaving you with room to cast another SF before leaving Eclipse.
As you can see this can be quite a huge boost to dps.
Solar:
Solar does not quite have as clear of an advantage as at worst you only trade a W for a SS within eclipse but the big difference comes from a similar cast sequence as the above ideal Lunar sequence when on the way INTO Solar.
0 + 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 = 80
If you cast an SS you go to 95 leaving you having to cast a full length SF instead of having just cast a 5th SF instead and getting into Solar faster. This also means that if you cast a SS during ramp up it can push SS back far enough that can actually go an entire Solar without firing off one.
And since ideally you are going to want to be leaving the Lunar Eclipse with 10(this happens when you get to cast 2 SSs in Lunar) or 15 Solar energy, you get these sequences:
10 + 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 = 90
At which point casting a SF is better as you will then be able to cast the SS under Solar.
15 + 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 = 95
Same as above.
A different reason for each eclipse, but both make a significant difference in the end.
Note: If my lack of morning coffee has made this confusing in anyway I'll be happy to rewrite it, lol. Also thanks for asking the question. I've been wanting to tackle this for the guide to have a better explanation as to why this is the case and this response is in the guide now.

I cleared out the main post of the guide to redirect at the
new guide location
. This thread will now be intended to be a place for open discussion and questions about the spec or guide itself. So keep asking those questions!

I'm curious as to what other Boomkins are doing on Ragnaros. Going from Solar to Lunar eclipse I can have up to 4 Wraths in the air at a time. This leads to a lot of hangtime between the last Wrath I need to get into Lunar Eclipse and the actual Eclipse. Nevermind Euphoria procs giving me extra energy that I don't know about until 6 seconds after the cast. So my choice is to either cast extra Wraths or extra Starfires waiting on my Lunar eclipse to finally happen. What do?

Many just continued extra casts or put SS in the rotation at a time when they know Eclipse will proc with what is already in the air so that it lands fully buffed. and then queue an SF after and hope to god by the time it lands you have Eclipse proced. Not much else you can do short of trying to proc Lunar via MF+LS spam.

Honestly, they should just make all eclipse energy gains occur on cast rather than on hit. This is a problem that no other class or spec encounters and it can lead to fairly large DPS losses, especially if you're missing out on Euphoria procs because you don't know they've happened until well after the spell is cast.
