Since when can opinions be wrong?
"My opinion is that the sky is green."?
/facepalm
That's not even attempting to state an opinion.

I didn't know you could put limitations on opinions like that.
All I'm saying is that yes, it's possible to have an incorrect opinion on something when they ignore enough supporting evidence against said opinion.

It would shock many people if I stated "gravity is a theory."
I tried to explain how time isn't actually real to a co-worker. They still don't believe me.

He's saying "The higher your GearScore the higher your
potential
to heal/dps/tank. Remember however, that is is
up to the player's skill
to match that
potential
."
He never said GS = skill. He said, the better your gear, the better your potential to heal/dps/tank. And the key part was "up th the player's skill"
GS, in short, is potential, how far someone can go (assuming that they have the right gear and itemization) not skill.
And again,
that statement is incorrect so long as lower item level gear that grants more DPS/HPS/etc. exist.

It's impossible to have an incorrect opinion. It's not impossible to wrongly believe something though. Ya see, there are these things called facts and these things called opinions. Neither is a subclass of the other. If you put stock into something like the sky being green, it's believing an incorrect fact. It is NOT having an opinion.

Well my opinion is that you're wrong. :)

A raiding guild wouldn't carry such dead weight and pugs rarely went the distance unless players were very good...so your example is flawed.
My example is personal experience. Every guild I've ever been in has had a few exceptional players, a lot of normal players, and a few terrible ones. And those few terrible ones, because they're old friends/family/significant other of the powers that be, keep getting raid invites. I've never talked to anyone that doesn't tell a similar story about their guild. (ib4 "My whole guild's awesome, you're wrong!") Have you really never had "that guy" in your guild? The one that keeps doing dumb stuff and is the butt of all the jokes? If so, I want in your guild. Unless you're that guy.
Anyway. Raiding guilds can and do carry bad players (even if yours doesn't).
Gear was no more an indicator of skill then, than it is now.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Again, believing an incorrect fact.

No, it's my opinion.

If I go from an average level of 245 to 251, my DPS/HPS/etc is going to go up.
Maybe.
I know that quite a few healing specs cling to 4p T9 for the bonus until they have 2p T10. Hunters should not break 2p T9 until they have 4p T10 with at least three 264 pieces. Trinkets like Solace/DV/DMC:G/etc. skew this as well.
In short, itemization and gearing is so malleable and unpredictable that you cannot say that "higher item level = better potential performance". Period.
And that is why Gearscore is intrinsically flawed and a worthless "tool".

Yet another GS thread goes to the gutter.
