My (not so) fond farewell to the Wowhead Rogue Forums
Return to board index

Brokenwing,
I don't know what the range of options available to a moderator are but I would hope there was something between locking threads (all i've seen in this forum) and forcing people off.
As for veteran posters leaving, life goes on and other people will pick up the baton, as has happened before and as will happen again in the future.
As for leaving, you do realise that these forums are meant to be for everybody not just the few.

As Cap has pointed out twice already, only questions which are extremely basic and already covered in the stickies get sarcastic responses.
The problem is, that is not nearly close to being always true and the level of caustic sarcasm and venom has risen over the past year.
And then there are legitimate questions, which get answered helpfully and clearly.
And this is not true far too often.
The issue is and always has been, though many fail to see it, answering with "Spreadsheet" or "Read the stickies" isn't the problem. Answering with "Spreadsheet you useless sack of noobness" and "Read the stickies so you can quit being a loser, nubsteak" IS. Some people really are clueless and end up playing their whole career without knowing dink about their class. You don't have too because of how things are.
Yes, there are trolls. We all abhor them. Rising to the occasion doesn't help get rid of them. Also the me too, pack mentality of venom spewing doesn't help either.
I am not hating and I am not lecturing, you can do what you want, just know, you and others hurt yourselves and your credibility acting like sand box punks with something to prove when you actually do have a lot of knowledge to share.

As far as spreadsheets go, I agree that they are a powerful tool in gear selection, but following what a program says (at least to me) seems extremely empty and following it blindly feels wrong. I would like to get my answers about gear from a player who has been through it and hear their real world, working knowledge suggestions of how to make me better; which is really the reason why you veterans joined this forum in the first place I presume.
unfortunately, even if spreadsheets are a tool and you feel empty because you don't put any reasoning and just follow what a machine tell you to do, they are the best answer you can have. (i've read your post in this way, maybe i'm wrong).
rogues mechanics have lots of variables behind, and so spreadsheets. you can do the math by yourself, but:
- you need time and dedications, as it is no easy job
- you will reach the same conclusion as spreadsheets, if you've done the job correctly.
spreadsheets are math and math doesn't lie. this is what i learned here. i got my quote of "read the stickies" and "spreadsheet" answers.

And in out forum we have our few elitests. And they were very rude too. But after time it was pointed out to them and they backed off. If they don't like a post, or a post is stupid, they ignore it and in a day it fades off the page. No hurt feelings. They took the high road, and realized its a video game forum.
Hi, Warlock "elitest" here (i like the typo that results in a double superlative!).
I didn't "back off" because people pointed out i was being rude. The stupid people just went away, learned to "read before posting" or at least stopped posting so much stupid stuff.
When you've put a lot of time and effort into creating a resource that is informative and accurate, is it too much to ask that people look it over before making a new thread? Also if people post idiocy or misinformation they should expect a firm rebuttal since casual readers need to be left in no doubt as to what the facts actually are.
The rogues have their in-joke thing going on but that's an entirely separate thing to the idea that they ruin the rogue forum.
The advice is good. The jokes are bad. Welcome to the internet.

I'm afraid your well-put post isn't worth the effort, this guy is too stubborn to shut up. He'll probably come back in about 10 days with another series of grudge posts.
