LosRojo, I was thinking of my experiences with the first few packs in Magister's Terrace (during WotLK, so it was runs consisting of new players being led by one or two alts). Not that I used Volley, but that sticks out in my mind as a situation
where a Multi-Shot will invariably hit a sheep.
Beyond that, I see your point.
Hopefully they make it ignore CC'd targets like it was supposed to about...what...

it looks to me like Explosive Trap is our main AoE, with Volley out and Trap Launcher in. Effectively, we wind up with an AoE spell on a CD once again (Trap Launcher's CD, to be precise). Here's to hoping that the
Explosive Trap glyph
remains intact, given the proposed Cata glyph system.
In Cata, all dots by default can crit and are affected by haste. I hope they will apply the same criteria to the traps and the glyph isn't even needed.

I only got one problem with them taking out volly its one of the signature abilitys to "our class"
with that i mean to volly in an army is a really old consept and is still followed today with artilery and multi shoting with bow and arrow normaly wont mean that you shot more then 3 arrows its hard enof to control where those 3 goes and with a rifle only thing i can think of is ether machinegun or shotgun type of fire
and if any got anysubjetions to how volly works just look 300 and when the arrows falls from the sky thats a volly attack and if you still dont belive thats a volly you really got to start read something.
and yes my english sucks but you do understand it
To garenzo yes they did say they wanted to make mutli shot make up for it but multi shot is not mutch of a signature ability of hunters/archers in all reallity you would have longer range but alot less hits per shot

Been a long time since I played a hunter as main but fail to see how a Blizzard without the slow is a signature skill for the class... Just never liked that one. :-/ I mean they did say that they're gonna remake Multi-shot to make up for it anyways.

I know I'm going to regret posting in this thread again, but I think it's the right thing to do so I'll take one for the team.
We think Multi-Shot is a more interesting ability and can fill the hunter AE niche (along with Explosive Trap). We'll have to change Multi-Shot from the current version to get it there. I'm very sorry if for some unusual reason Volley was your favorite spell as a hunter. We've been trying to consolidate abilities and free up some bar space and having multiple AEs that competed with each other seems like a good area to hit up. The Volley and Multi-Shot niches were very similar, which resulted in the latter being dead. We wanted to pick one and we though Multi-Shot felt more huntery and less "clunky" (to use a favorite Wow forums term).
Do consider that you won't be AE'ing yourselves through Cataclysm content the way you do currently. When you do need to AE, hunters will have the tools to do so. In situations where you do have to AE, you are probably not also trying to CC. When you're back to the level of trivializing lower level content, nobody is going to say "Don't bring a hunter. Their AE spam isn't spammy enough." We don't consider easily breaking rogues out of stealth a good reason to keep Volley around.
I think that hits most of the reasonable concerns. I care much less about addressing the unreasonable ones.
As always, those of you whose sole contribution is to post very inane or derogatory things will be banned.
Man, have we come a long way from "AE is only for trash."

I read a bunch of "there's no cc in burning crusade" posts and other stupidity.
Apparently none of these guys have been to black temple, sunwell, etc.
I remember there being quite a bit of CC necessary in 5 mans too. Some of those pulls in Shattered Halls were like 7-8 mobs.

Snake trap? Besides, people are freaking out about aoe damage on trash; why would they worry about single target dps?

I'm quite glad we don't have Volley anymore... Like everyone else said, it was boring to just go "volley channel channel channel volley channel channel channel switch groups volley..." until I had worn out my 6 key.
Maybe now we'll actually have a reason to use more than one button when fighting things in dungeons.

Heh, I bound it on my #6 key as well.
Even though volley spam was not fun imo, I think I'll still miss the ability. It was nice to actually have some kind of control where you would AoE. Multi shot randomly picks which targets it selects, and you have absolutely zero control of where your shots went. Volley on the other hand "could be" a precise tool used in raiding.

OK, but Volley isn't just any AoE. I just remembered one occasion when was useful to hit a AREA, instead the area around a target in ranged distance.
When for some reason the Tank lose aggro and 2 mobs come to me and another player, more than once I used misdirection while running to the other player and then Volley the mobs. With multishot that would be a decision between one of us. Who will be misdirected to the tank and who will still be chased. That's not uncommon and a GREAT loss off Hunter's utility, since Multishot DEMANDS range.
For me the call was wrong. MS should be the gone one.

Err... just any AoE is exactly what it is. It's the most basic kind of AoE in the game - same as Rain of Fire.
