In fact, a stack of mage quality food/water costs more than the difference between a vedor/shard
huh? did you just say that a stack of biscuits costs as much as a large prismatic? i know you didnt... did you?
magey doesnt wanna buff the healer with intellect... eh... i wouldnt waste my mana on healing em. they got bandages... er... should.
As said earlier:
If no-one skins it, it has no value
If no-one mines it, it has no value
If no-one picks is, it has no value
If no-one de's it, it still has vendor value
this too.

I <3 the armory, if I _ever_ found an enchanter who wouldn't shard something for the group, they'd never run with me again, period. I'd make sure I'd also let my friends and guildies know.
Its your life running 5 mans and raiding, not mine. I'd like to be asked to run something again, not blacklisted by the server.
Lol, I NEVER shard for randoms, I just greed roll like the rest of the grp.

Appart from making the process shorter, I don't see the difference. Sharding also gives everyone a one-roll chance at getting the shard. Well i guess you also have the satisfaction of not increasing the value of something someone else won...
I gather all unneeded BoP blues, shard them at the end of the instance, everyone does one roll and the shards get distributed from top to bottom. If we got 5 shard everyone's going to get 1, if more only the top rollers will get a second one (ie no second roll). Alleviates the pain from people with god damn luck on dices :)
Anything BoE i just greed along with the rest.

I think what the person was trying to say that the food and water people would have to buy for an instance for raid would equal the difference of prices of a vendored item versus a sharded one..
... BS if you ask me. I cook all of my food, RAP buff FTW.
Lvl 70 water (7200 mana over 30 seconds) costs 2g per stack so he was exxagerating a bit.

I can't stand rolling for shards and have left groups because of it. I need leather for some of my tailoring recipes but no one has ever rolled for it or offered it. I believe you should just roll for the item then de it after the instence. I understand that others need enchant mats as well to buff there equipment but as an enchanter it sucks having to loose an enchant mat after you just won fair and square off a greed roll. If you want to roll for enchant mats you need to roll for all mats.

the enchanter is just being helpful and turning something of little value into something of greater value. Youre not losing your chance to get the shard. Its still ONE roll youre simply rolling for a shard rather than a blue thats gonna be vendored anyway.

Just wanted to add my 2c.
To those enchanters that dont offer to DE boss drops no one needs, Yes u do have that right, it is your profession.
However aside from being a bit of a jackass for denying your party some extra profit at no cost to yourself, you're actually hurting you're own profit.
Almost every enchanting recipe past skill 350 requires Large prismatic shards, by reducing the number entering the economy you're raising their value, which will make enchanting more expensive to level.
If u insist of not DE'ing the drops then the simplest way to avoid any fuss is to not DE you're wins in front of everyone.

I've worked hard to get to the enchanting level that I'm at. If we're in an instance where almost all monsters are skinnable(ie: SFK), can I ask to roll for all the leather collected, even though the skinner/LW needs the leather to do his Profession? Even though it's not as valuable as my needed shards, they use leather in their profession.
It is funny that the leather drops combined will be worth way more than the shards in SFK. At least on my server. (shards goes for a couple of silver "before" radiant shards)
But that is only true for lower lvl instances.
But back to topic. I am a enchanter. And I have made tons of money while leveling my toon and leveling enchanting. (Enchanting and Tailoring combined helped a lot)
But what I do is ask when the first blue that no one needs drops. Then I ask: DE to shard? If anyone replies yes I need on the item and DE it. If no one can be arsed to type a y to make 10+ more G then I just greed on all the drops like everyone else and DE what I get after run.
I personally enjoy more to group with polite people than skilled people. And I can live with a few wipes if the run is more fun compared to a wipe free run with no chatting/Interacting between players.
And totally of-topic. Have you ever had a mage say: Ask for water/food now, I wont make it later. ?
That is one of the things that irritates me the most in this game actually. And if a mage says something along those lines I usually follow up with a:
Ask for heals now, I wont give them later.
Or something like that.
