At one point the cavern forked and, after a momentary pause, Corvus chose one of the paths seemingly at random. Some two minutes into the branch they reached a natural balcony - although it seemed at lot less natural now, the walls now showing hints of some coral-like material here and there.
The balcony was overlooking a vast chamber - the former residence of the late princess Theradras, butchered by no-good treasure hunters. The small isle with Zaetar's grave that she used to spend most of her time on was now hosting a ritual of sorts, with numerous cloaked figures forming a circle around a crystalline stalagmite in the middle of the isle. An almost identical stalactite was looming directly above it, a thick beam of unhealthy pink light connecting them. The beam was sizzling with arcane sparks, and in the middle of it a staff was hanging. Unusual it was, half again as tall as man, and made of exactly the same material as the Ur'Agahn, Nagorm's signature weapon. Numerous engravings covered all its length, and two wide rings of some white metal circled it around both tips. Every so often, a bolt of lightning would run down the staff.
"Nine burning hells," Corvus swore, "They're using the Ur coral to drain all life out of this place!"
Indeed, the floor immediately around the stalagmite and the ceiling immediately around the stalactite seemed to be completely devoid of any signs of life.

"But why?" Phillip wondered. "Wouldn't it be a million times more effective if one of them sacrificed themselves to it?" He asked. "That is how Nagorm explained it, I believe."

"Soul and lifeforce are not one and the same, if that's what you mean. Unfortunately, Ur coral can be used for many things..." Corvus muttered, trying to see if something was lurking inside the water surrounding the isle. Sadly, something turned it into milky white, and nothing could be seen through it.
Even without potential enemies inside the water, already they were facing a formidable opponent - numerous heavily armed enforcers were guarding the thin bridge connecting the isle to the rest of the cavern. More cloaked figures were scattered around the isle itself - apparently, they were resting after standing their watch in the circle. And their old acquaintance, an emissary to the centaurs, was standing in immediate reach of the pillar of light, his arms folded on his chest.
"Well, any ideas how to slaughter them all?"

Phillip stared for a moment, summoning a blade of ice. "Any idea what is holding the staff there?"

"All I can say is that it won't explode in a giant fireball, burying them and us alike under rubble. Probably," Corvus said thoughtfully, mechanically running his fingers along his spear.

Phillip nodded. "What would you say to grab it and run very, very, very fast?"

: John William Cassidy
John William Cassidy is a tall, thin to the point of frail human with light - but not pale - skin, long chestnut hair worn in a ponytail and almond-shaped green eyes on a long face that is capable of just a few emotions. He is a skilled engineer and an adept gunman, and earns his living by doing odd jobs, adventuring and some occasional bounty hunting. He is 31 year old.
Location
: Ironforge
"Any ideas how to, blondie ((Will change once I figure out Antharios' hair color))?" came a hoarse voice. A thick cloud of smoke sprouting from the tip of an expensive cigar parted as John William Cassidy spoke. He swaggered over nonchalantly, his hands in deep pockets of his armored black leather duster.

"Woah, woah, hold your hippogryphs," the gunman said with a wry smile. "It thrills me no more than you we've got a nutter running amok. Thing is," he puffed out another cloud of smoke, "look at them, knife-ear. They're shocked and helpless like newborn puppies. No one's gonna tell you a thing, so might as well start looking for tracks."
John squatted, looking the scene over.

Tahni Treewing
Ironforge
Tahni is a druid and the second eldest child of Tova Stormwing and Av'ka Treeshift, a night elf druid and troll druid respectively. Her black hair is cut fairly short in the back, getting longer towards the front, with chunky straight across bangs. Her skin is medium blueish-purple and she has a large black tattoo of the world tree on her right side. Her eyes are dark gold with cat-slit pupils. She wears snug, comfortable leathers in natural colours, with beaded jewelry. Age wise, she looks to be late twenties.
~
Tahni heard someone pleading, and walked closer to the scene, trying to see what was going on. Someone was asking help to find someone who did something.. but what?

"Odds are we're, sadly, not dealing with an amateur. The treads look like the soles were purposefully disfigured to make them unrecognizable," John grunted.

"Then perhaps we follow them," Antharios said, kneeling down and studying the prints carefully. He bowed his head for a moment and murmured under his breath, then glanced up. "Lead on. I'll lead us once the prints run out. Also, I'm Antharios."

Ironforge
The man was pinned against the dead end of an alley, a very thin one at that. A dwarf, a drunk, and a begger. Currently, he was mostly the latter; begging for his life.
A knife entered his throat, the shadowy figure gone in a heartbeat. The light from the street didn't reach into the alley far enough for anyone to notice the body...
