Is this really the majority?

Well, to be honest, unless they got the BoA gear with Champion seals, they wasted alot of potential time and money running heroics for heirlooms.
A) To get BoA's with Champ seals, you have to do the entire Champ faction line which takes infinitely more time than just farming EoTs.
B) What if you had the EoTs or Stone Keeper Shards already stockpiled and burning a hole in your bag? No time loss at all.
My hunter came in just under 3 days /played when I hit 80 with full heirlooms. I'd say it's worth it.

If your only goal is to gain as much experience as fast as possible, running through dungeons as a lowbie is probably inferior to questing.
Unfortunately this is not true nowadays. LFD is 2nd only to quick BG wins during the Call to Arms weekends in terms of experience gain. I leveled my latest priest alt through LFD almost exclusively and it's just been SOOO fast. I could either spend an hour or two to get 1-2 levels via questing and killing mobs, or I can gain 5-6 levels with repeated runs through dungeons. Even if we don't finish, the experience gained through killing mobs those groups is ridiculous with the 20% heirloom bonus.
I fully understand that the majority of folks I find in that system are new players. I don't expect otherwise. My post was to address the OP who said that people have no right to be impatient towards new players trying to learn this game. He made an effort to slow down the run and to do it at his own pace. My opinion is that people should give a little (on all ends) and find a nice middle ground pace where everyone's happy. Tanks that wait a few mins between pulls when mobs are already dead are a good example of not keeping pace.
I fully expect the group I get to suck, that's just my MO. If I find a decent group, I'm pleasantly surprised. I am well aware that if the group completely sucks, I have the option of leaving that group and putting everyone on ignore. It's funny when I run into one of these groups, usually the other more veteran players whispers me and we both agree its a fail group. There's no point in complaining, you can't play other people's toons for them.

I think Blizz should expand on the "twink filter" they have for the random battlgrounds and do something similar for the LFD system. That way all the overgeared players who just want to blow through instances for their emblems and the heirloomed alts that just want to get to 80 ASAP can be separated from those players who are trying to legitimately run these dungeons at the appropriate level and in level-appropriate gear.
They failed miserably with this and twinks in the BGs. People who just want to do some pvp action while leveling up their new toons getting 1-2 shotted by my 29 twink hunter. It's the same issue, different aspect.

Benefits to using Heirlooms:
1) +20-25% xp gains (depending on if you've won the ring or not)
2) less time hunting for upgrades (heirloom gear levels with you)
3) lower repair bills (heirloom gear does not have durability)
4) lower downtime (trinkets restore health and/or mana on killing blows)
5) heirlooms are transferable (when you hit 80 with your priest, send the heirlooms to your mage)
6) The chest and weapon graphics look great, in my opinion.
Drawbacks:
1) Bypassing all those slick weapon models because you've already got an heirloom arcanite reaper enchanted with crusader.
2) Some of the shoulder graphics look really dumb, in my opinion.
Can't wait for guild heirlooms so I can help out new players.

That dude would have &*!@#ed no matter what. It is what he does.
Heirlooms, no heirlooms, who cares. its your toon. do what you want with it. If you want looms use them if not don't complaining about someone who doesn't is a sure mark of a troll.

I love leveling, but I also like the heirlooms... because they remove one thing I've always hated about the leveling process: Looking like a colorblind clown.
Now, I don't harp on anyone in a group unless they're absolutely god awful... so I'm not they type to be all "Heirlooms or GTFO" either.
Idiots are going to be idiots regardless of what color their gear is... just chalk it up to bad luck and move on.

Ah, the hypocrisy of the "elite".
On their mains, they complain bitterly about people not knowing what to do in an instance.
On their alts, they want to out-gear and blow through the instances, and complain bitterly about the people who are there actually trying to learn what to do in an instance.
Twink filter?...It's called a guild. :P
I leveled my first toon practically never pugging. I created a guild and we learned and leveled together.
LFD is like a pick up basketball game...Don't shout out "I'll play" and then walk onto the court wearing flip flops and proceed to shoot the ball over the backboard every time and expect a positive response. :)

Is the "You must have Heirlooms to do instances that have been around years longer than Heirlooms" mindset the majority? Not in my experience.
Is the "I prefer leveling with Heirlooms" mindset the majority? I'd say so.
