When traveling, keep groups to a minimum. Attract as little attention as possible.
But when stationary, it's best to have a larger number of people to defend.
But you also have to keep in mind
food
water
sanity
cooperation

Guns. Lots of guns.
Body armor, covering all extremities + exposed skin.
Flamethrower.
Weapons able to exert a lot of blunt, area, high psi damage. Like the

Didn't MyTie do an absolutely kickass Zombie Survival Guide on these forums ages back?
Indeed.... Where was that at....
Edit: Fayne found it.

That's a wonderful plan given by MyTie, especially for the assumed circumstances.
It's funny, I was just thinking about this last night, and spent a few hours contemplating a double infection: Two diseases that lead to two different kinds of zombies: one fire proof and sprinting, one that spread through airborne patheogens and explode. I thought a nice castle on a lake would be cozy, surrounded by a 40 ft brick wall of course. You'd want someplace without earthquakes.... and there is a water supply issue if your on a lake. Perhaps you can drink lake water? Unless your zombies swim up and die in the water.... hmmm...

That depends on the lake. Lakes can be salt water (Do not drink) or Freshwater (I'd still not drink). Unless there's a source of freshwater running into the lake you don't want to touch it (even then, drink from the freshwater stream instead). Stagnant lakes taste naaasty. Oh, and if there's birds on the lake you may not want to drink it either way, damn uncivilised birds $%^&ting in my drink.
Still, you could always distil the water from it (tastes horrible though).
Distilling requires fuel. You can use the sun, but the sun doesn't always come out. I would want a reliable and life sustaining water supply. Drinking lake water may not be the best idea, but it beats death, if it is an option. I agree about the desire for freshwater. I am mulling over the best way to attain drinking water that is untaintable by zombies till you die. Perhaps you could have some large tanks designed to fill up by catching rain water, and place yourself in a very heavy rain area.

I never put much thought into the rain idea, if the disease is waterborne you can't be sure it'll be safe to drink (what if the water source the rain came from was contaminated by infected people/animals?).
Zombies don't die in clouds. How long after the apocalypse do you think the utilities would continue to run? Like electricity, water et cetera?6-48 hours. Most of what you listed I would think of as a BAD idea. Syphoning gas? Staying in a mall? The coast is 'wet' so that's where you get your water? It doesn't make a lot of sense, and you risk staying in a populated area without much defensive structure, no good food reserves, and no fresh water source. You'd be locking yourself into a tomb.

Of course not.
Zombie dies in lake and infected blood spills into the water, the water is collected as rain and deposited above MyTie's castle, MyTie drinks without distilling or boiling the water and becomes MyBraaaaains.Sorry chap, but it doesn't work like that. Rain water is some of the cleanest water you can drink, unless contaminated by the air, and that takes a LOT of contaminant (ie volcano) to make dirty. Rain water IS distilled water, for all intents and purposes. The act of evaporation is the same in the natural process as artificially distilled water. You could have a LAKE of nothing but contaminated blood, and the rain that came from it would be as clean as the water coming down on the Amazon rainforrest.

It may sound like a bad (and clichéd) idea but that's because you haven't seen the structure. The radio station part is like a bridge between two buildings, with an elevator to the ground floor at one end. It's about 2 storeys up so there'd be no way up for zombies unless they can climb or work elevators without power. The coast part I mentioned because near the cost means it rains more and what do you get at the coast? Seagulls! Nom nom nom.
Hmmm... Zombies may not be able to get in, but how do you get out through crowds of zombies to gather food? You need to be able to get in and out easily, and even grow food. A multi storied building near/in a populated area is all sorts of bad.

Um... slight flaw in that.... the Zeds would just keep moving, eventually ripping the trapped limb free, and if your in an area with tall grass.... you suddenly have several dozen crawlers, just waiting to play bear trap with their teeth on your legs. And real people would be worse to be caught; they'd be screaming and yelling, which is the zombie version of "COME AND GET IT! FREE FOOD HERE!"
That's where my bro Data comes in. I'd like to see zombies damage an android.
Heh, if it's Data after First Contact(or which ever movie where he acquired the fake flesh) they'd be trying to eat him, and if enough swarm him, they can pull him apart.

this is off the top off my head. I'm a little groggy, so it's not logical.
1. Go to California
2. Find Blizzard Headquarters
3. Steal Terran Marine Armor, or a Thor.
4. ...
5. Profit!

I know MyTie mocked it but,
The Survival guide is a good read
, and helps the 'standard American'(as that's what it's written for) plan ahead heh.
-spit take-
No. Just no.
It makes horrible assumptions (like undead being a possibility) and, as far as I know, works under the "only headshots kill" falsehood.
In reality, zombies would be normal humans controlled by a parasite or
maybe
virus (which would be transferred via biting, I suppose). They would die if they were held underwater, have just as much durability and endurance as a human and
would not be undead
. Or they would start off stronger and faster by using the body to its full potential (which places a large amount of stress and wear, which is why we're normally limited) and slow down as the host degrades. Essentially, beginning as rage zombies and turning into shamblers.Heh, the 'headshot' kills thing is true, for pretty much anything; destroy the brain and the body cannot move... at all; unless the parasite is like the things in RE4, then you have to shoot the worm when it comes up out of what's left of the corpse. If the virus does mimic undeath though, it would work... even drowning them, is the same thing, your destroying the brain with lack of air after all.
I'd suggest reading Plague of the Dead Absolmorph, they actually have tiered zombies in it; Sprinters(living beings infected with the virus) and shamblers(a sprinter/normal human who has died and come back as a zombie).
