anyways, a quote from the 40yr old virgin "Youre putting the pussy on the pedestal" Women can take care of themselves and if they feel offended in-game they will let the offender know.

People who appear desperate for attention usually get it in the wrong ways.
Most of the time, it's the girls on the game.

There IS sexism 'towards men, you know. And this isn't even a problem of sexism. Idiots in-game will find ANYTHING against you and insult you for it. If you're a woman, they insult you for "whatever reason".
Another example is if you're unemployed and still live with your parents. Doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman. Sexism does exist, but on the Internet, people will just use whatever they can find to arm themselves against you. In all my years of experience, women are more prone to people asking for their phone numbers than actual insults.
Um.
It's easy to say that sexism isn't a big deal if you don't get as much of it. Just because people are looking for insults to throw at you doesn't mean that they have to be rooted in sexism and misogyny, insults about qualities that mostly cannot be changed.
I don't think it's the best thing to march into a thread where someone is chiding people for sexism against women and say think of the men too! In a game where most of the players are men and there is a culture that is solidly misogynistic, to the point where it's a problem for women who play and the OP is compelled to make a post about it. Are you trying to say that sexism against women isn't that big of a deal in WoW because there's sexism against men too? And do you want to point me to this sexism? Because I really don't see it.
Sure, women get asked for their numbers all the time. But repeated and/or inappropiate advances where they're not wanted is not a good thing, it's not always flattering, etc. Insults are not the only form of sexism.
Also, OP I mostly applaud you for this post. I want to take a red pen to it though. (And also get rid of the strange tips at the end, or rework them. Guys shouldn't want to be nice to girls to get in their good girly sexual graces, they should be nice to girls because it's the better thing to do, and shows that they're a better person.)

Some people are stupid, and children. They will always be making annoying remarks.
Some people are stupid and like nitroglycerin. You tickle them and they explode.
Some people are mature. They do not give a @#$% about what the stupid people say, because they are over such silly remarks. Usually, they can twist the words in such a way that the stupid guy comes out as a complete idiot. Because you know, they are not stupid, and the rude person is.
We have males in my guild, we have females in my guild. We mock each other grandiously, just for fun, and noone gives a damn. The atmosphere is light, and cheerish. While raiding, we usually banter during the whole raid. We make fun of women, women make fun of us. They generally pick the stereotypical "men can only do one thing at once" trait to mock us, and can usually come up with very smart sexual innuendos. We generally pick the stereotypical "women love shopping and boots" trait to mock them. Most guys fail at sexual innuendos though. (stuff like: oh hey, if there was a girls-only guild, that just would not work. if boots dropped, they would spend all their DKP at once, and the guild would probably disband due to loot drama) But its still fun.
(i am a men btw)
Your name is Legion, for you are many. Do you find this metaphor approapriate?
Nah, no grammar nazi here. Just totally wanted to say that. :D

Response is aimed at OP since I did not read the whole thread.
As much as I despise how stupid some people can be when it comes to the way they react to the opposite sex (both men towards women and vice versa in some cases), I have to say it's come in very handy sometimes. You should see the free loot I get when I play on my female avatars, and all I have to do is act nice and pretend I don't think the other person is a buffoon.

Um.
On the contrary I have gotten quite a bit of sexism in my life for being a man as well as several of my friends, more than you could know. I just don't !@#$% about it, and neither do they. They move on with their lives.
So, you have anecdata for how men experience sexism, that you don't care to talk about in any detail, but it's not so bad because you and your friends don't "!@#$%" and you move on with your lives? Okay. So why is it worth mentioning in this thread?
I'm tellin' you. Most who play the game will welcome a girl. Out of all my years, that's almost always been the case. There's sexism in the real world I'll admit, but in WoW, people are more inclined to, "
Oh my god, a real girl! Let me spam her with whispers and give her my money in hopes that she'll totally get with me!
" In terms of sexism outside the game, there's more sexism against women than men, I'll agree. But freaking out about what goes on in WoW, which is a game notorious for its
rad community
, is hilariously trivial.
Yeah, that's harassment, and sexism, because the people spamming that woman feel entitled to her attention, because she is a woman. And again, you're pulling out your lone anecdata against women's experiences in this game. Go to wow_ladies on Livejournal, and see how many women experience this stuff all the time. WoW has a very young, very male playerbase, and I've seen the opposite when it comes to the perception of this community.* Yes, it's better for women than it used to be, it's actually possible to find playing spaces that are okay with girls, but on the whole a lot the playerbase can be @#$%ty when they encounter someone who is gay/black/woman. We pay our monthly fee like everyone else, we play as a respite from the real world, so why should we just shrug our shoulders at it if it bothers us? It's not very trivial if you enjoy the game and the harassment and environment is that bad, which it can be.
Kek.
What?
I'm saying that just because in your view women get asked for their numbers and that's an alright thing to you, doesn't mean that it can't be a bad thing. And just because
you
don't see the sexism in this community, does not mean that it doesn't exist, which judging by your response, you believe or you believe it's so trivial that it's not worth making a thread about (and you must also go into a thread talking about the sexism you and your friends experienced but not elaborate at all, because it's trivial, just like this thread). I know lots of women online who play this game. Some never even play with people who aren't in real life friends and family. So they don't experience much sexism in this. But I wouldn't take their opinion on sexism in the community because they don't experience the full community. There are lots of women who play this game, are in large guilds, raid, and use trade chat. And the sexism isn't always just, "OMG UR A GURL!1" Sometimes it's a lot more insidious than that.
*Lol, see what I did there?

I think the less attention you pay to sexism, the less reaction it gets the less people will be inclined to even go there. You are forgetting girls aren't some helpless damsels in distress. Most of us are QUITE able to put an offender in his place and/or simply ignore him because all he really wants is to offend and get a reaction.
But I also see how some girls really do everything in their power to appear as damsels in distress, constantly waiting to be helped through everything, to be given things, to be carried through content etc JUST for being a girl. I recently watched a video on youtube about female raiders, recognized one of the girls they interviewed as someone I have personally raided with in the past and she kept talking about how she conceals the fact that she's a girl and she just wants to be taken seriously as a player. Guess what? From my personal experience she announced to everyone she was a girl constantly, she would always say sexual things on vent, flirting with the nerds etc. Now there is no problem with that behavior per se, but the hypocrisy of lying about it is astounding.
So females, I realize sexism sucks but sometimes it is worth taking a step back and looking at your own behavior and values before jumping down someone's throat because he said something crude to you.
