I don't necessarily want these people to know when I'm logged on..
They don't. Come on, people...make sure you know how the gd system works before discussing it.
If you're going to quote relevant points, please take the full quote.I don't necessarily want these people to know when I'm logged on
or even that I play WoW.
I'm still against friends of friends, for all my previous points minus the fact that they can't see me online.
I quoted the part the was wrong. Adding an "and" doesn't make it any less wrong.

I wonder how many of those who !@#$% about Real ID have tried it?
I wonder how many of those who !@#$% about mixing methamphetamines and vodka have tried it?
Seriously. The above is not an argument.
We already have stories from the main WoW forums. Someone friended a person she knows and trusts. He friended a few people he trusted. Now, her full name and home phone and cell number are showing up in trade chat -- from people neither of them knows. How did this happen? We don't know. We don't have any way to find out.
Yes, someone made a mistake. The virtue of Real ID is that if you or anyone you friend makes a mistake in deciding who to trust, a bunch of immature kids with too much free time have your real name. And it turns out it doesn't
matter
whether they have a rational motive to care about you, or any idea who you are; if the name is unique enough to be searchable, they can harass you, and they might do it just because they can.
The measure of a good system is not what happens when everything works perfectly, but how resilient it is when people make mistakes. Real ID fails. Badly.
