"...Afflic is the most similar to Shadow, and happens to be the most efficient leveling spec..."
In my personal experience Demonology is the better spec for leveling, IF you mostly level solo. - If you level mostly in a group, affliction is better, because it's great for dungeons and raiding.
Destruction is good for PvP, though also for dungeons/raiding, but it's best after you've leveled up.

In terms of Affliction and Shadow Priesting ... hmm, I guess you can say there are similarities. When it comes down to it, it's a question of preference more than anything. Both classes use DoTs, and they're both casters.
I have a warlock and a shadow priest. I don't think they're alike at all. One of the basic differences is that warlocks have pets that are an important part of the play style and the way they deal damage.
Also, the priest has the option of going our of shadow in order to heal himself or team members, whereas the warlock can call upon a different pet to help him out. The warlock don't have any special "presence" such as the priest's Shadow presence; it is unique for the priest class.
Where priests (shadow- and other) can add health in a number of ways, warlocks can only add to their damage ability (Life Tap) and damage themselves in the process.
They use pretty much the same basic gear, but so do mages.
Some warlock players worry that our class may be on the road to being just another mage type of class.
I don't think there's any single answer to the things you're asking about. Maybe it would be an idea to roll a warlock and give him 10 levels. That could be enough for you to get an impression of what is unique to this class.

Good luck with it! ... '^L^,

UA is actually a cast, and most affli locks will use no SB to begin with and a DL at the end. SB is usually the instant cast, either talented or glyphs.
What!
Don't post bad and horribly wrong info.
@MrFreeze
Demon doesn't use CoA
@Zhawg:
Affliction is currently the most efficient leveling spec solo. You run into a group of mobs, dot everything, drain life, and win. Demon is a close second with less efficiency, but the ability to do some group quests solo.

demo used CoA to proc molten core...
look at it now
perhaps it would just be simpler to refrain from discussing details when your understanding of the mechanics in question is not current.
@gyranne, the fact that an end-game starter spell order was being quoted might have tipped you off. however, while UA does have a cast time, it is (plainly) a DoT so that seems like an odd thing to pick up on.
this is even more vexing when haunt is described as a DoT when it (plainly) is not... but you didn't have an issue with
that
(?).
this thread is full to over flowing with comments spanning everything from 'odd', through 'misinformed' and on to 'idiotic' and should probably be left to die.
warlocks
can
feel like shadow priests but they don't have to.

Was about to comment on that, until I noticed Asakawa already doing it for me :)
So yeah, both classes are different (thank god, who wants to play a game where all classes have the same playstyle?), affliction is the spec that gets the closest to it.

Problem is the question is opinionated, so there is no real answer.
Yup.
As a SPriest and Lock for the entire Bore of Pointlessness that was BC, and even most of Wrath till I leveled my Paladin, there are aspects of SPriest and Lock that are very similar.
However, the concept of what you are doing to the poor, hapless b@$7@#*$ differentiates SPriest and Aff Lock.
Locks: Corrupt and Destroy
SPriest: Torture and
Vampirical
Life Draining.
(yes, locks had/have drain life, but SPriest focus on being . . . . well . . . . vampires)

So wait, what will happen if I roll Worgen SPriest when cata hits? Will the universe implode, or will all female toons suddenly swoon whenever my character walks by?
