I can't wait for the NDA to be lifted, I can't wait to see the new talent spread! As it stands now druids have 4 specs. Ferals are very close in the point selection and so you now have Feral Tank and Dps. Well with all the talk about bloated talent points being removed, and Blizzard saying they want players to have 5+ extra points to put ANYWHERE, I can see druids now having a Cat/ Bear tree and possibly a healing or Boom tree set up on the side. Even if they don't change anything now and give 5 extra points, that would allow for that make-up.
So now I'll be able to be a Tank/ dps/ healer! Druids win the game!

Can you cite your source? This seems highly unlikely, and new information is usually false unless coming from Blizzard.

Read again what he said. I think you didnt get what he meant. He just said that with the exra 5 talents points, you will be able to select enough talent in Feral to have all the core DPS and Tank talents, so consider it like 2 talent trees.

Depending on how they set this up, they could still work around it. From what I remember reading, much of the tank's avoidance and defense is going to come from the Mastery system, and (I would guess) the same would be true for the extra stats necessary for a cat Druid.
If they based the Mastery on the specific talents chosen in a given tier, they could still stop a "hot swap" cat-bear.
That's speculation, of course.

I don't think 5 points is enough at least in endgame raiding.
For leveling sure feral dsp/tanking hybrid is entirely possible and viable.
At xaratherus: The simplest solution to still allow "hot swapping" cat-bear is to have the mastery stats depend on which form you are in. That would also be the solution that is easiest to understand for new players.

Well you have to remember that unlike other talent trees, the Feral tree is bloated by design.
Likewise the actual number of talents isn't decreasing all that much, what's happening is that boring talents are being replaced by more interesting ones.
Considering all of this, as long as a substantial number of feral talents only affect Cat form or Bear form there won't really be an issue. Sure they'll have access to both masteries with 1 spec, but mastery is still only one piece of the puzzle.

Not going to happen for end-game raiding. There are too many talents that are beyond reach that are required.
As it is now, it already happens heroics
A pure moonkin spec can easily heal 5 man dungeons without any problems, I was healing heroics since a few weeks after WotLK launched.
A pure kitty can easily tank most 5 man heroics.
Plus, if you look at a current moonkin build and give them 5 extra talent points.. those extra talent points would be used in the balance tree, not in restro.

@ Xaratherus I have to find it, but they did already say that the mastery system would work that way for the feral tree. Meaning it would have one benefit while in cat and another while in bear. If they made it so people would HAVE to choose talents to get the benefit of the mastery system, then 'free choice' is out of the window. And it looks like they are trying to make talents more about choice and no longer a 'cookie cut' build. IE, the Mastery System.
@ Runehoof We have to wait to see how they build the new talents. As it stands now, the ONLY real tanking talent are Protector of the Pack and Thick hide. That's 6points. You could argue infectious wounds, but I don't know too many bears using that at the end raiding.
@ Azrile. The point was that one could do this through the feral tree. If they don't change the tree by much, or rather remove some of the bloat then it seems it might be easier to have a solid cat/ bear build in one tree and have another tree free to do whatever. Heals OR Boomkin.

Ah sorry, I thought it was in reference to the leaked talent builds that were out a few weeks ago and not the current wraith talent trees. Which in turn have just been released by Blizzard. The feral tree has enough bloat that you will be gimping yourself in both forms if you try to bear-tank and cat-dps with the same spec. There are some tanking goodies that were added to prevent this (10% spell reduction in restro etc)

@ Azrile Yup, this post and topic is DEAD! I just did a mock tank build and even though there are a lot of 'joint' talents, being a bear is/ will be a dedicated build. Sucks that it IS cookie cutter ALL the way. I don't see room enough for 'free' points to be spent anywhere one would like.
