Im going to advise any new player that actually stumbles upon this thread to not listen to OP, theres way better guides out there.

Healer: Druids have the best healing mechanism (HoT's can be put in advance of damage and heal long after the spell is cast).
What about Discipline Priests who can put up 30-second duration shields which have 0 overhealing?
That doesn't show as much on the Recount healing metres, obviously!

Listen folks, i've played wow a long time and i've got to say this. Classes change over time.
Back in Vanilla Paladins were only wanted as healers. In BC they were generally not allowed to tank beyond Kara and their ret dps was so sub par it was almost laughable. Warlocks were also the flavour of the month back in BC, able to do great dps without a huge amount of effort. Now Warlocks are bloody rare simply because their rotation tends to be more difficult than that of say...a mage (I play a mage, don't hate me for stating the obvious).
QFT.
Warlocks were basically free HKs in vanilla, yet in BC they were very powerful both in PvE and PvP. Fury Warriors had the potential to be very problematic in vanilla as they didn't have any aggro-reducing abilities or talents back then, yet now they have talents to help curb their threat a bit and are very desired in raids. It was uncommon to see anything other than a Warrior as a tank in vanilla (Bear tanks were around, but not very common), but now we have 4 very strong tanking classes to choose from.
These are just some examples of how drastically classes have changed over time. By the time Cataclysm comes out, this guide will be moot; granted, so will a lot of other guides, but hate to break it to you OP: it was a nice thing to do, but there's not much to be gained from writing up such a specific guide at this point in time when we're just about reaching the end of WotLK and prepping for Cataclysm.
