For a ret pally, who is very well geared, but lacks an icc25 progression, is DBW a good trinket, or are there better ones that can be attained?

TBH, the ArP isn't exactly the best.
From what I hear, it procs 1200AP (which is a little more than the iLevel 200 trinket), 600AGI (which Death's Choice gives 500 strength, which is better imo.) and 600ArP, which isn't exactly the best.
Feel free to flame, this is just my opinions on it.

These are indeed the procs you will see as a paladin. From the
item
page:
The transformations the trinket provides are random, last 30 seconds each, and vary between classes.
Death Knight - +600 Strength, +600 Haste, or +600 Crit Rating
Druid - +600 Agility, +600 Haste, or +600 Strength
Hunter - +600 Agility, +600 Crit Rating, or +1200 Attack Power
Paladin - +600 Strength, +600 Haste, or +600 Crit Rating
Rogue - +600 Agility, +600 Haste, or +1200 Attack Power
Shaman - +600 Agility, +1200 Attack Power, or +600 Haste
Warrior - +600 Strength, +600 Haste, or +600 Crit Rating
So although the static ArP on the trinket is far from optimal, the procs are decent. But if you can get DBW you can also get Herkuml, Whispering Fanged Skull or Death's Verdict, which are all better options.
In a pug, sure I'd take one, but for anything with guildies or friends, I would certainly pass on it.

It's not BiS for ret pallys but if I ever see it drop, I fully intend on rolling on it.
My last ICC 25 Recount showed 11.8K DPS and melee swings and divine storm were 2 out of my top 3 damage dealers. Those are both physical DPS.
An upgrade is an upgrade.

What was the breakdown on boss fights -- where it actually matters.
Me?
That was Saurfang and Festergut. Overall data was closer to 10.8K I guess.

Not sure I am understanding you.
Are you saying that on single target boss fights like saurfang and festergut, 2/3rds of your damage is physical?
No, that's not what I'm saying. I don't only have 3 sources of damage, read again.

Sigh.
Not having 3 sources of damage is immaterial and not the point I was making.
You could have 3 sources or 10 or 8 or 72. 2/3rds could still be of a certain type.
Saying that two of your top three top damage dealers are physical obfuscates since they don't make up the majority of your total damage.
So unless all you're doing is physical attacks, you're emphasizing something high on your recount that don't actually represent that majority of your total damage.
But I have a feeling you don't really care and will use whatever argument you can to justify getting what you want.
Let me rephrase that: "Dear Davidson, we are interested in the exact percentage of damage that is physical: Melee swings, Crusader Strike and Divine Storm."
From my previous Retri experience it was less than 40%, and the rest is Holy damage that does not benefit from ArP at all, but as I have not played Ret in a while I have no idea to what extent the % Divine Storm is increased by the T10 2-set bonus.

I'll like to quote myself. This is what I said:
1) It's not BiS for Ret Pallys.
true
2) 2 out of my top 3 damage dealers were physical. (This is the same for that "best ret" damage meter you posted, #2 and #3 were physical.)
true
3) And upgrade is an upgrade.
I will roll if it's an upgrade
4) I fully intend on rolling on it.
true
I don't agree with restricting Ret Pallys on items if they have ArP. People use this "best use" argument a lot but when that is used, it just opens up a whole new can of worms in what "best use" means. If someone is topping the damage meter and using every ounce of his gear and something like the DBW drops...how can you say another class (like warrior) can get "better use" out of it if, let's say he is doing way less DPS with better or similar gear.
I would then argue that he isn't using his gear well at all and that best use would go to someone that would.
However, both arguments would be flawed and they should both get equal roll.
Having said that, if this dropped in a guild run, then I wouldn't roll at all, because I would be tanking as that is my main spec.

WFS goes to DPS first in my guild runs. Considering that there are 3 DPS waiting for the Heroic WFS off LDW ... I'll say my chances of getting it for my ospec is remote.
I have the HWT.
So, DBW would be an upgrade over my badge trinket.

What exactly are you still discussing here? Don't we all know by now that there's a brand of people that would roll on it because they think about themselves and a brand that doesn't?
Saying 'it's an upgrade' doesn't prove your point, it just confirms your school of thinking.
