If you're really devoted to getting your alt up then go for it.

There are multiple reasons for having alts.
Some people level alts as a past-time in WoW, to get away from the boring monotony that raiding becomes at one point.
Others level alts to experience all the various classes and the different viewpoints this game has to offer.
Again others level alts to have most, if not all, professions in the game, so they don't need to prowl Trade chat for a crafter etc.
Yet again others level alts to have a tank/healer/alternate dps handy for when their guild needs it, or they need a break from the same role all the time.
If you wish to level an alt for professions or to have a tank/healer at hand, now is the best time to do it. Get heirlooms, get QuestHelper, and power your way through to 80 in a week or two. Otherwise, leave the leveling for Cata, as there will be a different feel to leveling with new quests and zones, and you have the opportunity to witness the work they've put into re-modeling the old world first-hand.

Well... whatever you like! Just try it? :) If it's not for you, you will find out soon enough.
I have a lot of alts, and it's a lot of fun. Sometimes I want to play a completely different class for a while, it's nice to switch to healing from dps or back. I understand you can switch between roles on a druid already, but another class.. it's a nice fresh new look at things. Sometimes I want to get away from all 'seriousness' on my main and I hop on a lvl 29 and jump around blasting in battlegrounds and dungeons, just having silly fun.
What an alt also provides, is an understanding of different classes than your main. This will make you a better player in groups and pvp. It's never pointless.
When you get to having multiple geared lvl 80's, it's also nice to be able to perform more roles in a raid, switching when needed.
Despite all my alts, my main is still very much my main and gets played more than all the other classes and is the one that goes for all the achievements, gets the best gear etc.

What is the fastest way to level? I dont see how you can lvl to 80- in a week unless you are not sleeping or going to school.

yeah i dont see anyone hitting 80 in a week, even if you rafed to 60 in 2 days the 70-80 grind is still a pain

Can be done, if you have the time, but.. for me part of the fun of leveling an alt is also learning to play the class, and learning to play it WELL. I mean really really well.. not just 'acceptable'. Personally I need time to do that, to fully explore all new abilities I get when I level and the synergy between all of them :) Depending on the class, I think it's quite hard to do that in a week.
(yeah I have a love-hate relationship with RAF hehe)
eh, probly wont have an alt. maybe, but i doubt it. ill think about it, but ill probly just go with the druid only. an alt could be fun tho.
What are your points against it, Soldrethar? :)

So he can make dumb topics like this obviously. Make a alt if you really want to, nobody is going to care either way.

Well if you are never bored and have enough to do on your main.. keep your main only :)
Alts are just extra fun and a fresh look at things. What I also liked about alts was rolling the other faction, and do all the quests I'd never seen before. Or roll on a PvP realm if your main is on a normal realm, or do lower lvl battlegrounds (which are a lot more fun than 80 BGs often, imo)
You don't have to 'leave' your main for alts, mine still gets all the money and gear and achievs. But playing something completely different once in a while is fun!
If you're still not sure.. just try it out, you will find out soon enough if you like it or not. That's the only way really, we can give our opinions, but they are just that... opinions.

I've rerolled some alts to experience vanilla wow. Alts got mounts now and Dalaran makes travelling a lot easier. But I cannot stand any more Northrend quests for now. My latest alt quested to 71 in outland, but stopped dead after this.
