Would it make more sense for a mount to speed up when going down?

Say on my 150 flying mount I start to go down. oh look a guy jumps off the building beside me and hits the ground before I do on my mount. I think if your flying straight down or at a angle you should at least speed up a little.
I just wanted to see if anyone else thought this as well.

it's just the alpha version of a netherdrake. You can get netherdrakes in game still.

Realism: you begin a vertical dive and you start to pick up speed. Suddenly, you realize you are getting close to the ground and you try to pull up but alas you are going too fast and you slam into the ground and take a million dmg.
