Have to ask: What's with this gear score nonsense?

Why the gear score frenzy? Seems to me it has caused a whole new level of elitist behavior in the game. I keep seeing the trade and general chat posts that raid groups will only accept high GS players. How are the players who are working on getting high gear scores supposed to get them if you can't get into the instances that drop good gear because you weren't born with a high gear score?
I kind of feel like it is up to the highbys to help the lowbys get there. Maybe that's just me though. I always try to help low level characters when I can.

you're about 6 months late with this, search for it if you care so much and for the rest, stop beating a dead horse.

Thanks.
I see his point but politeness should always be considered.

Gear score
should
be used as a quick "yard stick" to determine the content for which a character is ready. For example, if you've got a GS of 3000 and try to go into ICC 25, then you're going to be carried by the group because your DPS/heals won't be competitive (let's not get into tanking).
Unfortunately, a lot of the "immediate gratification" set assume that GS is the be-all, end-all of how well a given person will perform, and set stupidly high GS requirements so that they can have a cake walk through content, rather than actually having to try.
That being said, having a high gear score is not necessary to "gear up". The LFD tool will only place in heroic content for which Blizzard thinks you're ready; from there, you can grind Triumph emblems and buy your 4-piece T9 set. The heroic ICC dungeons also drop a number of trinket and weapon upgrades, along with filler pieces for the ones not covered by T9.

Gearscore is like a bikini, what it shows is suggestive, what it hides is far more important.

Last time I asked random strangers in a general trade channel to work together for a few hours to accomplish a common goal.
I had no requirements and no standards. I blindly picked the first people that responded. We went ahead and beat the game in 2 hrs with everyone just being super awesome and no fail involved.
It was amazing that DPS that just dinged 80 were able to be so skilled that they did 8K DPS and Tanks with no gear were able to take the hits.
True Story.

Forums are pretty much the rehashing of similar subjects. If the subject is something you don't want to post on..don't click the link, it will quickly die. If you feel that it bloats the main page forcing you to click next page..are you really that lazy? If your hoping to change forum habits..well then your post falls under the same category of beating a dead horse,if you care so much..create your own website forum and make your own rules.

True Story.
Last week, a guildie (Pally tank) joined a pug formed through trade chat for the weekly raid. The raid was for Ignis, 10-man style. They wanted a GS of minimum 5000.
The guildie finally bailed after they had wiped 4 times. He ranked higher in damage done than 3 of the DPS they picked up, even though everyone had the minimum of 5k GS.
True story.
High GS <> great player.
Moderate GS ~= great player who is still gearing up.
Raid leader + Looking at GS only = Fail Raid Leader.

Gear score is really just a hedge for success. For pugs like zerging OS3drakes you kind of want to make sure a player has the gear to survive and put out in that fight, but like it's been posted it is no guarantee.
It would be nice if RAWR created an addon based on it's formula. Then I think we would have a better gauge of gear.

I think a RAWR addon might be a little intense. I like GS, mainly because I use ALL of its features (Raid experience, SpecScore, etc).
