Soul Fire question

I know when fighting a boss as demo once it's under 35% it's maintain dots with as many soul fire's in as you can, however I was wondering what about before 35%.
For instance, lets say a boss is at 80% health, decimation procs due to a random add you kill however your dots are about to fall off. Do you reapply dots when needed and soul fire in between or try and take full advantage of decimation and launch as many soul fires as you can and then reapply the dots once the proc is over?

agreed, the best way to think of it is
decimation simply means you replace your nuke (SB) with soul fire
whatever the percentage of the target. DoTs are still used since they're better DPET than soul fire.
on a side note, if you cast soul fire when decimation is about to expire you DO get the reduced cast time but if your soul fire cast completes after decimation has run out it WILL still take a shard.
basically if you're ok for shards you can usually squeeze out an extra SF. if you're running low or have a long raiding night ahead of you then it may be best to err on the side of caution and stop using SF when decimation has ~2seconds left.

Also don't forget that
Molten Core
buffs Soul Fire too, so keeping Corr rolling during Decimation is still very much worth it.

or princes. a rank1 SB on a non-active boss (r1 because it's very quick) procs 10seconds of SFs on your main target.
try making a macro to cast r1SB on your focus then each time the active boss changes, focus the one you've just been DPSing then swap. it does take a bit of practice but SFs are nice.

Wow that is a good idea, can't wait to try it out when I get my lock in there that far (my guild needs me healing on the shaman most of the time unfortunately). Do you happen to have that macro handy? I'm pretty noobish with macros so I know if I try to make one it won't work and I'll be back here posting on how to fix it.

/cast shadow bolt(rank 1)
you can also throw/focus into a macro and put it on your actionbar for quick access.
i actually use a mouseover focus macro that i have from other characters (hunter and rogue for a tricks/MD target, healadin for adding valithria to my vuhdo etc etc.) but the extra stuff isn't at all required.

I would think the macro'd be:
/stopcasting
/cast Shadow Bolt(Rank 1)
or something like that.
Edit: Asakawa beat me too it.

aha! actually i put a space in before the brackets. not sure if that would've messed it up or not (i think it would have) but your post made me notice my mistake. i've edited the above post to correct it now.
writing macros from memory without a means to test them is probably a bad idea.

well, like so many people my DK is stuck in his awesome ulduar gear and has barely been played since then. i have a mage that i played a ton for a week after hitting 80, got up to about 5250gs, did one ICC run and haven't touched since. so, yeah, i have a few but they don't all get much attention.
(embarrassingly given my allegiance to warlocks as a class) my rogue is my best geared closely followed by my warlock (who is, at least, my kingslayer so that's something) then druid and pally then hunter.
