Can I pull off leveling to 80 as tank?

Ok I have a 73 DK,
Obeekaybee
, with the gear I have will it be doable without an issue if I use
this spec
? The reason being is I recently tried blood tanking on PTR with premade char and really liked it so I would like to level as tank, not to mention quicker instance ques. I ask because I am not sure how crucial the gear is pre 80 for tanking. Thanks for any advice.

The BoA items should help a lot tanking random normals. I might suggest trying to get another 2 hander, so that you can use your rune of the stoneskin gargoyle on it, but it isn't a huge deal until you get to 80.
Just make sure to pick up all the tank upgrades you can as you go and you should be fine. The only difficulty you'll face is what all fresh 80 tanks face when they first ding: getting all the Defense needed to be uncrittable in heroics.

Yeah, but I'd get the lvl 70 crafted cobalt set, as its VERY good for tanking. You also might want to spec
frost
, as that allows for much easier aoe aggro(which is 99% of the fights in dungeons). Just HB>DnD>BB and baam, aggro. It has much more snap aggro tools, too. At 80 you can then respec to blood when youre done with farming hc's and going into raiding. And if you insist on blood id rather go with
this
leading straight into the
cookie-cutter blood tank build
.

For blood tanking, I wouldn't leave out morbidity. Not having DRW and only having 3/5 Blood Gorged won't make-or-break you in normal dungeons, but not having DnD up every trash pull might make threat unmanageable.
With that in mind, for the time being you might also want to consider the DnD glyph over the Vampiric Blood glyph, with the same reasoning. I think the biggest issue you'll have to overcome is just ensuring that you have all of the adds glued to you on trash pulls. A stray mob one-shotting the healer is much more likely to kill you than anything the normal dungeon bosses throw at you.

Alright, thanks for all the advice, I will probably pick up this
quest axe
and throw stoneskin gargoyle on it. Honestly I can understand how frost would be better snap aggro with HB and all, but I will just glyph DnD for increased threat and just start fights with that. I figure drop DnD, IT, PS but my other question, as blood mind you, should I spread diseases right away or bloodboil with that last rune for a little threat burst?

Glyph the Howling Blast. It infects your targets with Frost Fever, eliminating any need to use Pest.
Pull would look like:
HB
DnD
Deathgrip the caster mob, silence the other
By the time your runes are active again, so is your HB. Hit with an Oblit, 2 BB's and an HB. Tab target for rune strikes.
A single disease rotation fits nicely for Heroics (and leveling dungeons) where people are unlikely to overtake your threat lead that you so easily produced.
I was asking as a blood specced tank where I do not have HB but my
BB
s are
stronger
and do not get any extra buff from having diseases on target like
tundra stalker
.

Oops. Sorry about that. I just read your reply without reading the whole thread. Reading > Me.
DnD>IT>PS>Pest would be what you want. The snap of a blood boil is instant, but doesn't measure to the continueed threat that you generate from spreading your diseases. Once your runes come off CD, BB>BB>DS>DS while tab targeting throughout.
lol no worries. Ok thank you I will stick with spreading them then.

By your choice of weapons above, you are going into 2H tanking, so you can leave off Nerves of Cold Steel and Threat of Thassarian and you MUST get 2H weapon Specialization. As you level, add Bladed Armor and then likely Scent of Blood, but by then, you will have a better idea of what you want to do and how to do it.

@ Smilingman
Yes I know of the de-raged waraxe I just dinged 75 last night so now i can do the quest thank you for the info though, and I have been looking at the cobalt and saronite sets I am going to farm up the mats tonight on my paladin and find a BS to craft the items. I am worried about threat at 80 like you said but I am going to keep my DnD glyph for awhile until I have high enough gear so hopefully that'll help. Also via the stickies I am going to macro all my abilities to use Rune Strike if it is available.
Ex:
#showtooltip Heart Strike
/cast Heart Strike
/cast !Rune Strike
I think that is the correct way to do it. And just an update, I tanked several instances last night and for the most part went very well, even without any tanking gear, I did however get the axe of frozen death with stoneskin gargoyle. I do feel that I take very spikey damage at times, I do not know if this my fault or it is just the lack of gear.

Funny you mention mind freeze as those spellflingers have been the only use I have gotten out of the ability so far lol. I will use that macro you linked for my abilities, thank you. I have always been somewhat hesitant on using cooldowns for any class, have a fear of using it when it is not crucial then actually needing it when it is on CD, but seeing as I have a few at my disposal I will just force myself to just use them more often, VB anyways since it is such a short CD. Thanks again!
