Hey all,
I find these WoWhead forums very informative and full of friendly priest players so I'm gonna ask another question that was probably asked before but might definitely come useful to many new players who daily check these forums to think about how to develop their spec and gameplay experience.
I am a new priest (haven't even hit 20 yet :) but I am absolutely loving the idea behind discipline healing and shields. Now because I level mostly through instances with a friend tank I can go full discipline from the start of my char. I would liek to ask you what kind of add-ons do you use that improve discipline gameplay ?
so far I have configured my ShadowedUF frames so that it only shows my buffs and debuffs on party members so I can see clearly who is being healed/shielded and most importantly who has Weakened Soul is there any other way people track that?
Is there any addon that would predict or indicate how much damage will get absorbed by the shield? I would like to know how long it lasts so that when the shield is about to be fully absorbed I could start casting heal or reshielding.
Also I am using Clique now and wondering if thats the best bet out of those all HealBots etc. I like it simple and dont like my addons to do too much for me. If there are any other Clique users, what bindings would you recommend for later on? :)
Many questions but I'd love to see the answers to those. Thanks so much !

I personally use Grid + Clique for raid frames and for quicker casts, Bartender for my bars, skada as a means of gauging damage done, DPS, HPS etc. (Although a World of Logs parse is much more useful). I also use Satrina's buff frames, SexyMap, DBM, Decursive, Event Horizon, Power Auras, Quartz, MikScrollingBattleText and Omen.
However, for a while, I did not use any addons at all, and still managed to heal very effectively. I would recommend leveling to 80 with no addons which help your healing, so you can develop your understanding and technique, then download some addons and experiment to see what works best for you. Hope this helped.

I didn't use any addons until after WOTLK came out! However SUF works exceptionally well, I adore it, and until you start raiding, you really don't need anything heavier than that, it shows you everything you need and from the sounds of things you've configured it well. Bartender is nice to organize your bars into a more user friendly space, but as Patty said, go to 80 without anything like Vuhdo or Grid (I used Grid until recently, switched to Vuhdo since its easier to configure over my different healers), it will help you heal much better, and you won't freak when the patch breaks an addon ;).

Same, I didn't start using any until ~ when Ulduar came out. I'd like to think that worked fairly well.

I use vuhdo and have since lvl 70. it was nice to have 10 lvls to work out the kinks - raiding wasn't as huge of a shock. I'm not at my home system so I can't go over all my addons. But have bartender (makes everything nice and clean), Move Anything - literally you can move anything/adjust it's scale, sexymap, PoM tracker -very nice addon you can watch it bounce, inner fire helper because I would forget. I would recommend getting in the habit of either key binding or mouse binding your spells. It really goes a long way in making you an efficent healer. With Vuhdo you can mouse bind your spells so all your doing is clicking the players unit frame. Mine is currently setup with PowerWord: Sheild and left button, Penance on middle button, flash heal on right and with a shift+ I have dispel magic left, renew middle, cure disease right. For PoM, greater heal, prayer of healing, hymn of hope/divine hymn, inner focus and power infusion I set up a 7 column vertical bar (bartender) next to the right of my grid and it works really well not having those bound. On the opposite side of the grid I have a 6 column vertical bar with mana pot, shadowfiend, flask and buffs. My screen is very minimal and I have a ton of viewing space. Oh last thing, with vuhdo you can set it up so that whatever player grid you click also becomes your target - great for your aoe's PoM/PoH or for power infusing someone on the fly. Hope this helps.

Horriqca - did you know that Vuhdo can track inner fire (change your box color so you know its not up, I make mine change purple) and POM bounces? Just a suggestion I know with me having less addons is good, especially if the ones I have can track things. Vuhdo can also track estimated amount left on PW:shield by showing an icon that looks like the shield circle, and as damage gets absorbed it removes a section of the circle. Quite handy!

My Priest is only 38atm but I am using Vuhdo. Since my main is a resto shaman I am used to it. When I am home again I will put up a screen shot I took last night. Just to give you an idea of how my UI is set up. :)
EDIT: SS as mentioned.

I use AG_Unitframes, which is basically the same as your ShadowedUF and, similarly, have my party frames set up to show only my buffs that I provide and debuffs that I can dispel. That's for 5-player parties, however. Once it's a 10-or-more-player raid, my party frames turn off and my Grid turns on. I've got my Grid set up to show who has PW:S, Weakened Soul, and Renew (although that's obviously not used very often). Grid is also useful in battlegrounds as you'll be grouped with at least 10 people.
Some notes about Grid:
You'll want some additional Grid addons such as GridIndicatorSideIcons, GridIndicatorCornerIcons, and GridStatusRaidDebuff among others.
Set up your side or corner icons to show who has PW:S, Weakened Soul, and Prayer of Mending. I've also got mine displaying who's got Power Infusion.
Set up your center icons to show Magic and Disease debuffs so you know when to cleanse or mass dispel.
It'll take a bit of tweaking through the settings to get the grid frames to display in an easy-to-read fashion and also easy on the eyes.
Is there any addon that would predict or indicate how much damage will get absorbed by the shield? I would like to know how long it lasts so that when the shield is about to be fully absorbed I could start casting heal or reshielding.
DrDamage is an addon which will put numbers under all your spells on your actionbar, telling you how much damage or healing each of those spells does. The tooltips will break down the co-efficients, etc. showing you the breakdown of where those numbers come from. Unfortunately, I don't personally know of any addons which show how much absorption is left on your PW:S target...
Also I am using Clique now and wondering if thats the best bet out of those all HealBots etc. I like it simple and dont like my addons to do too much for me. If there are any other Clique users, what bindings would you recommend for later on? :)
People will argue forever about whether Vuhdo, Clique, or HealBot is best. Essentially, they're saying the same thing. Mouseclick binds have been my favored way of healing since my priest was around level 65.
What mouse clicks feel best to you will have to be your own choice, but here's what I most commonly use:
Shift-Left button: Prayer of Mending
Shift-Right button: Penance
Right button: Flash Heal
Middle button (mouse wheel): Power Word: Shield
Shift-Middle button: Renew
Alt-Middle button: Dispel Magic
Ctrl-Middle button: Abolish Disease
Thumb button 1: Binding Heal
Thumb button 2: Greater heal
My actionbar is where I keep my other utility spells: Pain Suppression, Desperate Prayer, Power Infusion, Prayer of Healing, Holy Nova, Divine Hymn, Shadowfiend, Hymn of Hope.
Take those as merely an example. I like to spam right-click on my Grid frames for Flash Heal, and maybe right-clicking has a different connotation to you. It'll also depend on your mouse; how many buttons it has, how the mousewheel feels to click it. You may also want to turn off the key bindings of shift-mousewheel from changing your actionbars. It can get frustrating if you're casting Renew on people with shift-mousewheel only to realize you've accidentally changed your main actionbar to actionbar 2 or something, especially if you're reaching for a heal or a macro which isn't there.
Here's a shot of my 25-player raid UI:

Unitframe in bottom left is my focus, and bottom center is focus' target
Good luck leveling!

Interesting that you use both Skada and Omen as Skada also has a threat meter that works quite well (and looks nicer to boot). Just add a second Skada window for threat.

Was wondering IceQ how do you set up your UI like that? Was hoping to get a nice clean UI for when I heal and I really liked that SS. What addons do you use? How do I get it set up nice like yours? Thanks for any information...
Top is Fubar.
Left: MoneyFu, DurabilityFu, Gearscore*, recount*, DBM*, Broker_speed*
Center: Borker_Latency*, Dualspeccer*, TopscoreFu, WintersgraspFu
Right: VuhDo*, PartyFu, FriendsFu, GuildFu, SkillsFu, WIM*, InboundFu, AutoLoot*, ReagentFu, SmartBuffFu, Altaholic*, MCPFu
* = Put there via Broker2Fubar
Unit Frames Xperl (only player, party, target, targetoftarget & focus frames, I disable the raid frames. I make VuhDo replace them.)
Xloot (and Visual heal) right under fubar.
IceHud middle of screen.
MSBT to the left, & right of IceHud
FloTotems (Shaman only obviously ;)
ForteXorcist for the timers.
Chatter for chat box
Spartan UI & bartender4 for the bottom.
Omen on the left & Recount on the right of the Spartan UI bar
Sexymap for the minimap.
HTH :)
EDIT: Forgot about MSBT

This is exactly what I've been looking for, shame that Healbot cant handle this, but anyway I have installed Vuhdo but cant seem to get it to replicate this function, only that it shows the amount of seconds left on PW:S. I've tried reading through the Vuhdo forum etc but no joy, can you help me out by telling me how you do this?
Thanks
First off, be sure you are on the latest Vuhdo version, 2.2 or above.
You could show weakend Soul as easily as adding a custom debuf. In the Debufs, Custom screen, add Weakend soul, and choose to show an Icon and timer. I personally wouldn't change my bar color, since I want to see magic, disease, or raid debufs as bar color
at the same time
that I see Weakend Soul. However, you could do this.
I used an icon for a long time to indicate Weakend Soul, but because of other debuf icons I was watching, I wanted to find something that worked better for me.
With this release of Vuhdo, indicators are controlled by Bouquets, which are multiple sensors arranged by priority. I deleted my custom debuf for Weakend Soul and went to the General, Indicators screen. I wanted to show some items by the border settings.
For the Outer Border, I chose "Border: Multi + Aggro". Under more, I've got it's width set to 2pt. This gives an outer border that shows who I have targeted, as well as who has aggro.
For the Inner Border, I chose "PW:S & Weakened Soul". I like showing PW:Shield as an Icon as well, so I made some adjustments to the Bouquet. Again, the width is 2 pt, then with Edit. I selected the Weakend Soul sensor, and clicked Item to change it's color to purple and Opacity to 100%. This is the top priority. If Weakend Soul is up, the inner border is purple.
The next sensor is Power Word: Shield. I selected that and clicked Item to bring up the color chooser. I made the opacity zero, so that when weakend soul drops off, but PW:Shield is still up, the inner border goes away (still have PW:Shield icon counting down).
The final step, which I really like, was to add another indicator to the Bouquet. Click add to make one, then select "Flag: Always Solid". This will be our lowest priority, so it activates when PW:Shield is not present and Weakend Soul is not active. I clicked item and set the color to yellow, and opacity to 100%.
The net result of this is that I have an icon for PW:Shield that counts down. I also have an inner border that shows purple when Weakend Soul is active, none when Weakend Soul drops off, and then yellow when someone needs a shield and is able to have one cast on them.
What I do may not be exactly what you want, but hopefully in going through it, you will decide what will work best for you.
Edit- Oh wait, were you guys talking about inner fire? You can just have Vuhdo watch that with Buffwatch (buffs tab). Your bar will turn gray when you are missing a buff. You can have it autobuff, but I'm not a big fan of that.
As far as the PW:Shield used display, go to Panels, Hot Icons, and put a check in Shield Status. Sorry I mistook what the question was, hopefully this answers it.

Wow. dadanox - awesome tutorial. Kudos. I'll have to set mine up like that too. My problem lately is sp procs (icc ring). I keep getting an error that a more powerfull spell is active for shield - I so hate that, but I think your set up will counter that with a little yellow border. Awesome.
