Account under view / password verification scam
Return to board index
Post by

A month ago I received a mail from Blizzard that my account was under view. I never clicked the link in the mail because I know that they are trying their best to hack account's now.
This is the mail:
World of Warcraft - Account Under Review
From: noreply@blizzard.com (noreply@blizzard.com)
Sent: Tuesday 20 April 2010 0:10:03

Greetings,
An investigation of your World of Warcraft account has found strong evidence that the account in question is being sold or traded.
As you may not be aware of, this conflicts with Blizzard's EULA under section 4 Paragraph B which can be found here:
WoW -> Legal -> End User License Agreement
and Section 8 of the Terms of Use found here:
WoW -> Legal -> Terms of Use
The investigation will be continued by Blizzard administration to determine the action to be taken against your account.
If your account is found violating the EULA and Terms of Use, your account can, and will be suspended/closed/or terminated.
In order to keep this from occurring, you should immediately verify that you are the original owner of the account.
To verify your identity please visit the following webpage:
(Don't know if I may show the link but for safety reasons I won't)
Only Account Administration will be able to assist with account retrieval issues.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter,
and your continued interest in World of Warcraft.
Sincerely,
Account Administration
Blizzard Entertainment
Now a month later I received another mail for an Account Password verification.
This mail warns me for a high risk of a phising message:

I've seen some reactions of him on some other topic's. If he wants to react that way, fine. But if I can help someone that gets an email like this then it was worth it.

Perhaps Malgayne and crew could start a sticky to collect these sorts of messages?
However, in the long run, the best practice is to never click on a link in an e-mail (unless you are explicitly expecting the e-mail); instead, always go to the primary site and navigate from there.

So you got an email from a non-blizzard email address (or at least a reply-to address) and for some reason feel the need to share with us?
There are millions of emails just like this. If we all post them to wowhead as soon as we got them, this forum would be flooded with threads like this.
Not trying to be rude... though I do have a tendency to come of as being such.
As usual eltardo here has to troll with anger.
@OP: Thanks for sharing it with us, it's usually helpful to get the word around on hackers attempting to hack through email.
So you come onto a thread just to call me a troll, and somehow you don't see that as trolling?
You troll every single one of my posts...
Fail troll is fail.
You are the one who is trolling, maybe instead of being a hateful troll you should be nice? That'll really help your anger issues. I also responded to the OP about this thread so don't call me a
fail troll
when you can't read.

There's some good threads in the
WoW Help
-forum, which can be seen
here
. I'd advice to read through those, especially those regarding Account Security and the like.
Also, for the record: Trolling a troll is, logically enough, also trolling.

I wasn't trolling though. I was simply telling the OP that while we appreciate him wishing to help, posting every spam/scam email he receives is not necessary.
If we all posted every scam/spam email we got, this forum would be flooded with them.
Bottom line: I came here to discuss the topic of the thread. The TROLL (TomatoSauce) came here just to troll.
No I didn't, I came here to thank the OP for spreading the word about emails with hacks in their links, more people benefit from the knowledge. You are trolling and with anger so be quiet.

Alright, since neither of you can take a subtle hint, and this isn't going anywhere, I'll lock it. If in doubt, consult the
Forum Rules
.
I believe that the original poster has gotten a response to his question, and means to figure out where to find helpful information on the subject.
